First Impressions, meeting a millionaire

Hey everyone,, I've been busy out there having a blast doing it too..... and during the Christmas season took on employment with an Ice Rink Production Company. I have worked for a much smaller company building and managing Ice rinks in the past. It is a marriage so to speak for it has a life of its own until the rink closes.

This last season I was in Long Beach California out at the Queen Mary, there was and Ice Rink there and inside the dome was an Ice Slide and Ice Kingdom. A team from Japan built all the Ice Kingdom stuff and wow are those folks talented. I was responsible for the slide, the man in charge only wanted me on that project for others have messed it up in a bad way. That is it cost way more money to get it going that needed.

Now I don't want to give out any trade secrets but Ice is made from water!! And trying to get water to freeze when it wants to flow down hill, remember this is a slide is tricky. I walked up and down this slide 6 times and hour to gently rain water onto the surface that will freeze the water and create this major fun slide. That went on for many days until I had ice thick enough to hold the weight of the people sliding on the slide.

Then the chiller breaks down in the middle of the night and melts half of my work. The Refrigeration cats got the chiller up and running and by the time I came in the water that ran down to the bottom had frozen.

Well that created a new problem because I had to screw wood through the rubber tubes that carries the chilled fluid for the slide. Now I had to chip out ice over and inch thick and place in the braces for the plywood floor where the people having fun sliding down the slide will come to a safe stop. Carpet was installed over the plywood, gives it a great look and gently stops the tubes we slide down in.

So here I am with a little small hammer beating the ice off the rubber liner when the owner of the company, whom I have never meet comes in from Germany to check out our work. Last year the crew working on his slide poked over 50 holes in his floor, and a great cost to repair. And here I am beating on his floor with a hammer.

He will remember me as I will him, but I wish it was over cocktails or something better than me having to make due with what was. I would not allow any help so it was a bit slow. I heard what the crew did the year before and made it my own project. He only saw me beating on his multi thousand dollar ice slide. And this man is a millionaire and I am cussing myself under my breath thinking of all the ways I pictured myself meeting a millionaire for the first time, never ever had this way came into to mind.

So I ask, was this a good first impression or not? The slide did open on time and was super awesome to play on. But I got a feeling he will be talking about me for years to come and somehow deep down inside of me, I see a funny moment in time that will always bring a smile to my face.

Have any of you got a good first impression story? Lets hear them.

You Rock!!

Looks like you are skilled with ice, lol. ;) Quite a story you have. ;)
These maybe memories you could share with yr loved ones over a cup of coffee. That's how life is, never know when we will meet someone special. :) Thanks for sharing, Cali. :)

That is a great story! :) I have a feeling you will both remember the moment with a smile!

I am truly hoping he will, I have some Ice Rinks I want to sell him in the coming season.

Thank you for posting your comment.

It will be interesting to hear what your future encounters bring!

This part of my life all started by getting behind the sound board at church back in 07, and I had no idea how the thing worked. But the bible was also very strange to me as were the people who read it. Not so strange any more yet I am........

to most
yet not all.
normal people have this believe about me, and there are those in church that are the same yet I have meet so many since that day in 07 that are very much on the same plane that I am, different seat but same plane.

Life is a wonderful thing when the heart opens up.
Smiles save life's.

It is amazing the route Father takes us at times! I know I certainly don't fit into the stereo type that most of the world puts Christians in. And I couldn't agree with you more, in how wonderful it is when the heart opens up, for it is only through the heart that we will ever find the real relationship God intended us to have with Him and not just some form of religion.
Yes, Let's keep smiling, they saves lives and they are free! :)

How about meeting your future father-in-law for the first time when you step out of his son's dorm closet. Oh by the way, it was an all boys dorm hence having to jump in the closet when there was a knock on the door. Good first impression? Interesting maybe. This is something that you never hear the end of. :-)

Oh my, that takes the cake there for sure. Wow!!! Got caught like that with my friends girlfriend trying to hide from her parents so yes I can feel you there but it was an very awkward moment for all of us; but a memory non the less. OH my yes the stories over drinks during the holiday are never going to end.

Thank you for sharing that with us, so wonderful to hear I am not the only one to live life like in the movies, I will giggle inside thinking about your story for awhile.

You rock.

Hmmm, so glad I can provide a giggle. :-)

It is cute how things back then were LIke OMG
and now,
Well you know, we get to share those fun moments with who we chose and it is fun.
Thank you so much for sharing for I have never heard or thought of the female side of that. Us boys would hide over and over again over silly things but college, oh my that is a good one. And ya, you got me on that one, Not for sure if that is worth topping, Thank you for the giggle one more time. And thanks for sharing

Just to finish the story and let you giggle one more time.....my future father in law went back downstairs and told my future mother in law (who had to wait downstairs because females weren't allowed upstairs-HA!) that a girl stepped out of their son's closet and she was no bigger than the garbage can that my MIL was sitting next too. My ex is 6'2" and I am 4'10". I then went down to meet my future MIL and was totally mortified. Oh, by the way, they were picking him up because he flunked out of college..............he spent too much time messing with some short blonde. Ooops. The only reason I wasn't failing is I was wearing short skirts and had male professors. Hey, it was in the early 70s. :-)

Oh my, ya I have been addicted to blonds all my life. Back in 07 when I found myself single yet again I made the move to black hair woman, blue eyes. Totally dig on her. I rembember the 70s, started my teenage years then in Pomoma and Montclair .

Thanks for sharing, that is awesome, MIL had to sit down stairs, oh my that is good. Yes I will smile for awhile over your story.

You Rock.

First impression stories are great! I don't know if yours was a good one or not. It was what it was! I would think about it and like you, a smile would come across my face.
When I first me my husband, he told me he was looking for a wife. That is a first impression that makes a smile come across my face. Take care. Enjoyed your post!

I do not think it was a good first impression but it is a funny memory. And I am in the business of making memories, and I really want them to be good memories. I know that the little ones I told about the ice frogs and ice snakes are going to tell their grand children about that.

A man brave enough to tell a woman he is looking for a wife, that is a wow moment for sure. My hat is off to your husband, that is much better than what I can up with.

I am glad you read and enjoyed my post and left a comment, I am grateful and thankful.
You Rock, and so does you Husband.

Cali

I can't think of any story right now, but sure enjoyed reading yours. :)

I am glad you enjoyed my story of me meeting a millionaire. No limo or nothing, just some construction worker doing his thing.

Thank you for posting

Hey Cali, great to hear from you. Love your post, great story:)

Thx, it was fun to write and remember. So much I had to cut out. A few beers and no one would read this for it would be like the energizer bunny. It would go on and on and on............................

Thank you for your comment.
Cali

LOL! you're welcome Cali:)

Great post, man!
haha. Love first impression stories.
The first time my wife met me in college she thought I was stuck up and full of myself. I spoke in front of the entire student body, used a lot of humor and had a good time with it. Rubbed her completely the wrong way.

That is funny. I do hope she likes your humor now. Well I'm sure she does for she did marry you.
