Ah, good point Michael. I don't have Kraken yet. I'll check that.

Thanks,

Cal

Well, I suppose it depends on your theme, they usually have an optimal size for featured images. But, it might depend on what size the image you uploaded to your site is as well. I know the EWWW Image Optimizer plugin makes the file size of images smaller, but not the actual size it shows up as...at least as far as I know.

So, what I do is take whatever image I'm going to use for the featured image and resize it down to whatever the optimal size is suggested for the theme...for example, 640 x 400. It might be different for yours though...not sure which theme you're using.

A couple of free image tools I often use are PicsArt (App), Canva, and Krita. Usually for resizing I use PicsArt, which is a rather basic one, it can do stuff like cropping and resizing, and a few other options. However Krita, which is similar to Photoshop, might take a bit to learn...but thought I'd mention it here since it's free and I know Photoshop is rather pricey.

Anyways, I also usually look up the theme on WordPress Org to find out whatever info is available on the theme...usually the theme homepage link or view support forum has info about the theme...sometimes quite detailed instructions on how to get things to work. But, not always...so, it does depend on the theme and its developers.

Hope that helps...let us know how things go for you.
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Hi Sherry, thanks for your response. I use GeneratePress and have viewed their support suggestions. I tried updating size for posts but that didn't work.

I usually use Canva to create my feature post images but it looks like they aren't consistent in size.. What I've done right now is made the layout show posts in two columns which have leveled the playing field and made the images consistent, at least, when viewers first see them.

Thanks,
Cal

No problem! Yeah, very frustrating when things don't want to go the way you planned. I've never used GeneratePress yet, but I see there's documentation listed under their "Help" tab in the menu of the their site...and under customization there's an "adjusting featured images" but not sure whether it works for only Premium or not.

Anyways, for myself, I've found resizing images to the exact same size for each featured image has worked for the themes I've used...but, it could be a setting in your layout as well.

One of the sites I have uses a magazine type theme, and under the blog roll the featured images somehow turned out different sizes on a few, but most are pretty consistent...looks like maybe the length of my title might be affecting it for some reason, but before I switched to that theme, they were all showing up the same size.

Just thought I'd mention that since it sounds like it changed when you switched it to two columns. Good to hear you've got them looking consistent now! :) ~Sherry

Thanks Sherry, gonna start trying to produce same size feature images in Canva going forward and see how that goes.

Thanks again,
Cal

All my featured images are the same size. some show slightly cropped versions of my chosen image when the page is opened but I don't mind that as it makes it look quite interesting,

Mike

Thanks Mike

Cal, I'll keep an eye on this thread and see if you get a definitive answer. I've had the same issue from day one. I have considered using Canva to make a themed 'feature' image for each post, not very interesting but hey would all be the same size. Currently they all vary, some are missing letters etc. Is this the same for you ? We're talking about he image that is part of a snapshot, say, under 'recent' posts and the like ?

Hi Twack, yeah, I normally create my feature image using Canva as well. I know there is a way for WordPress to display all feature images the same size.

I'm thinking it's theme related I just haven't figured it out yet.

I agree, you would think there would be an 'optimum' size so that all the posts display the same.

Right, from everything I'm reading it looks like the size of the featured image should always be the same when uploading to WP.

Funny, it would take me a while to go back to Canva and edit every image.

Have you tried either Full Size, Medium Size, and Thumbnail size?

Hi Jimmy,

I haven't tinkered with the settings yet. Gonna start with GeneratePress theme settings first.

Thanks,
Cal

Go to the post thst has the image size you like. Go to edit post click on image get size then go to each post and resize the image to the size you want

Thanks Emmitt

I think the optimum size for featured images will depend on the theme you are using. I resize my images before uploading so that I know they meet the theme critera and thus are all the same. Once uploaded EWWW or smush will optimise the "file size" as much as possible.

I use a free tool called XnViewMP but I am sure there are lots of different ones availble. So if I am dowloading from an image site like pixabay or have made an image in Canva I just resize it here to my featured image size

Hope that helps

Kevin

Yes, helps a lot.

Thanks Kevin!
Cal

I like to install a free theme and good range of plugins on my website, will somebody show me step by step, as a newbie plz do me this favour

Hi Jayantilal, this is the best place to start. It will guide you step by step.

I had the same problem. I contacted my theme support and they showed me a simple way to do it. Now all myfeatured images are the same size (almost) on the home page.

I suggest you contact your theme's support also.

Thanks, I'm going to poke around in GeneratePress and see if there is a solution there as well.

Hi Cal
I create mine in Canva using one of the social media templates, I like the Facebook cover template. It's more time consuming than having a plugin that does it automatically. Will be watching here to see what other solutions are posted.
Hope this helps

Hi Louise, I create mine in Canva as well, however, I think all the sizes are disproportionate.

I'm thinking there is a plugin that might take care of this.

Thanks,

Updated

This morning I read this post: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/darrennicola/blog/we-have-just-passed-1-000-follows-in-the-wealthy-affiliate-network written by: https://my.w

Hi Cal,

No, I have not had the opportunity to meet anyone from WA. I do believe there are a few members in Toronto. Which would be about 35 miles from me.

Michael

Hi Michael, I think it would be great to brainstorm with local member(s).

Networking is great online and in person. It would be nice to know who lives in my state.
Shoutout from the desert! Anyone else from beautiful, sunny AZ?

Yes, Ashley, it would be nice if we had a way to meet others close by. It would have to be done without risking members' privacy though.

I would love to meet up with other Uk affiliates! Be wonderful to actually sit and have a in Person catch up : )

Yes Sarah, there is power in numbers. If nothing else learn from each other's failures and successes.

U are do right.somtimes i feel like asking my classmates if they know anything call wealthy affiliate just to met one of them.am carious men

I think it would be great to work with another member live, face to face.

Yeah.that is correct

Sometimes when we go out to eat or shopping, I was wondering if anyone I meet at the restaurant or the store is someone from WA. I even think maybe some of my neighbors are WA members.

Interesting Amy, maybe one day you will meet someone right there at home who is a member at WA.

That would be cool. : )))

Not yet, but I am almost certain that to do so I will have to use the aerial route.

Hi Russell, hum...maybe one day..who knows.

Yep. Maybe it's something we can work on as a community.

Just a thought...the logistics would kind of tough...and we have to keep members' privacy in mind as well.

That's true, so it will have to be done privately.

Have not met anyone face to face. But I'm sure there are many folks here in SoCal. Good for you guys.

Hi Tim, I thought their post was very nice. I would think meeting other members and working together locally would be of great benefit.

I have not met anyone from the WA community but have wondered if there are others around me.

I think it would be fun to have a meet and greet locally.

-Amanda

Hi Amanda, I think so too. It would be cool if we started a thread seeking other members near us locally.

Must admit Cal it would be nice to meet up with another member to be able to chat face to face, and perhaps help each other, get to grips with the program. I am no computer expert, I need all the help I can get at the moment.
Enjoy your day
Ian

Yes Ian, meeting and working with a member(s) geographically close to us would be great.

Cal

Not yet, but I know a few people that live not so far. It would be fun to meet them :)

Nice, I'd like to know if there are any members living within driving distance of myself as well.

Has anyone used images from Creative Commons? If so, how or what is the best way for adding their html code giving credits for images?

Thanks
Cal

I've never used it, but I would love to know too.

Hi Calvin,

Here is what I do when using wiki commons images.....

When I find an image I want to use I right click on the image.

A drop down will appear telling you what the attribution requirements are. It will usually say "you NEED to attribute the author" or "you CAN attribute the author." click on that and it will give you the attribution link.

Then copy after you save the image and insert it into your post, go to the "edit" window on the image and paste the attribution text into the "image title attribute" bar. Update and your done.

When someone visits the page they will see the attribution when hovering over the image. see image below

That is how I apply attribution, hope this helps.

Cheers and blessings, Brad

In the program that I started using to make videos, you get access to images from Creative Commons. In the description below the video I need to add this:

"This presentation contains images that were used under a Creative Commons License. Click here to see the full list of images and attributions:

https://link.attribute.to/cc/329791"

The images and video clips are really good, and there's a great selection!

Janelle

Hi Janelle and thanks for the information. For the specific post I am writing they have some really cool images that I want to use.

Hey Cal,

You might want to check out the training offered on this topic. See screen print below...

Hope you find this helpful.

Awesome thanks, I'm going to take a look.

Thanks a lot I needed this.

You are very welcome Stacy-Ann, and Thank YOU for letting me know this helped you too.

Hey, I've used the wikimedia commons & a couple others but I was pretty disappointing with their quality & selection. I also worried bc the royalty free images & the ones with restrictions for how you can use them are all mixed together. I recently found a place that I really love with great quality images, a much wider selection & every single image is completely 100% free & clear! You don't have to link to them or give credit or only use them for personal not business.

This place is different! It's called Pexels & it's free to use, you can create an account to save photos into different categories anyway you want. The only restriction is that you can't use a photo of a brand or person to say or imply that the brand or person is anything negative or that they endorse anything. That's it. You can use them for commercial work, alter them all you want, post them anywhere, & you can choose what size to download too! I love it so far.

I only found it yesterday but I already have like 16 different categories filled with photos to use later! They appreciate it if you want to credit the photographer but you never have to. This way you'll never need to wonder if the image you pick is the right license for your purpose! Hope you guys check it out & i hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the information Annie...I'll take a look at Pexels.

Cal

I haven't used them, however, I suppose it would be a matter of adding their code at the end of your posts giving them credit. They might even have instructions on how they want it worded or written out on your site, I have seen such on some royalty free images and music sites.

Thanks, they have some instructions on their site. They even show adding their credit to a widget in the side panel. I have contacted them about it and now waiting for an answer.

Thanks
Cal

Sorry, I haven't used them.

Thanks Mick

Unless you absolutely have to use the image you found there, would you not be better using a free image site such as pixabay ?
It saves any need to credit

Hi Dave, yeah I agree, however, they have several great images that portray my blog post geat.

I wrote an email to them asking the best way to give credit. Their instructions are a little confusing.

Haven't used them.

Thanks Fran
