Finding Your Voice

Have you found your blogger's voice? It's something that I'm working on. I'm just starting to learn that it's okay to be myself and write in my own voice instead of trying to sound like everyone else. Besides, if we all wrote alike, how boring would that be?

Here are some things you can do to help find your own unique voice:

  • Make a list of at least three adjectives that describe you.
  • What types of books or articles do you like to read?
  • How would your friends describe you?
  • Read over something you've already written, then ask yourself, "does this really sound like me?" I've found this to be especially helpful
  • Do you enjoy yourself when you're writing? If not, then maybe it's time to make a change and instead write about something you do enjoy. If it feels too much like work, then you might be on the wrong track.
  • Think about what influences you, what types of music or literature do you enjoy?
  • Try free writing, just let yourself go and see what flows. You might be surprised. You can always go back and edit it later.
  • As Kyle often says, think about your audience, who are you writing for?
  • You don't have to be perfect.

We all have something special to say in our own unique way. So be proud of who you are and stay true to yourself. Best wishes!

Hi Carol, Great post! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for this motivational post, Carol!

I am glad you said my adjectives as I would not be game to use my daughters adjectives. The computer would catch fire.
My 150 blogs are not about me as they are about what I can do for you.
It should always be about you the customer so offer all you like and enjoy to your customer so they can enjoy as well.

That voice you want really only comes out, as easily as it might, when you are writing about what you really know and are really passionate about!

thank you for this post and especially listing your research sources!

I'm still kind of slow at the post but starting to get a little more comfortable I know it will take time thanks for your share

When I write about something I enjoy doing, my true voice comes out and I really enjoy the writing. I've done some freelance writing on topics I was not familiar with nor had much interest in and I found myself forcing myself to do the work, which was not good.

I feel the same way. So much easier to write about something you're truly interested in and enjoy.

Thanks for sharing Carol. Great!

After the number of blogs I've done here Carol. I have a good feel for my unique writers voice!

Great post Carol! Thanks for sharing!
