Is it better to have a domain name for my website or should I just use the free siterubix site to get my website going? Are domain names important to make money?
Hey Briana, Tchelow is correct on his points. It is better to own your own domain name. I also don't want you to feel pressured into doing it right away. You can use siterubix sites as they do rank. You can always purchase a domain name when you feel ready and transfer your content to your site.
If you're just interested in knowing which is better a .com is always the best way to go. :)
Thanks! I definitely went with the domain route. I was just asking the questions for others benefits as to the reasons it may be better!

Having your own domain is like having your very own personal piece of retail estate on the internet. As your site grows and gains popularity and traffic the need for a domain will become more and more important.
You don't have to rush out and do it right away if you're unsure. When I first joined I simply played around with a site rubix page just to get an understanding of how it all works. Also to give myself time to decide which niche I was going to pursue.

I have had a site up for years now with a domain that I do not want to lose. How do I transfer that to Wealthy Affiliate?
Yes, you can transfer the entire website to WA hosting.
Put in a WA hosting support ticket. They will do it for you. They will also let you know what you need to do and the right time to log in to your existing domain registrar to change the DNS address to point to WA servers. It's important to do things in the right order.
Simply follow what WA hosting tells you to do and when to do it but they will do most of the work for you.

Thanks so much! I did recall that you can do it just wasn't sure how. It is through WIX . I definitely don't want it there anymore as it's 5 a month. It's not through GODaddy so I'm hoping it can be done because it's my name and it's very important to me to keep my name.com . It's for my art etc. I don't need someone hawking it and making me pay thousands to get it back or something
You wouldn't be able to transfer a free WIX website but if you have your own paid domain, I hope WA Hosting can do it. Let us know what happens. ~Jude
It's pretty simple. Just follow these instructions: https://www.wix.com/support/html5/article/transferring-your-wix-domain-away-from-wix-2477749
@Tchelow - I'd let WA hosting guide this. The link you provided is for transferring the registered domain name (from one registrar to another). I don't think it is for website content transfers.
She can leave the domain name registered at Wix, change the DNS address via her Wix account to point it to the WA servers and let WA Hosting take care of moving her website, if it can be done.
I don't know whether WA is doing transfers of domain names as yet. The Site Domain service at WA is new, and that is a different process. ~ Best to let WA Hosting handle it. ~Jude
