OK, you've answered #2 yourself.
Google authorship requires a photo of a person and not the store front for SERP authorship to work.
Change that photo and it should show up in SERP.
Got it! I kind of figured that was why it wasn't showing up.
Any idea's on #1 though? This one really has me lost. I've optimized the Google Local page for keywords, added pics ect... but for some reason it only shows up for his store name

So I was editing some of the code on my site because I was getting a couple errors in Googles Authorship testing tool.... Warning: Missing required field "updated". Warning: Miss
My site is down. 500 error. I have no FTP. I couldn't set it up and was told I wouldn't need it. . What do I do?
Oops! Editing PHP code on your site is frequently going to give you 500 errors, or syntax errors, so as Craig (Welshy) mentioned already, you'll have to fix this by connecting via FTP.
Any PHP editing on a website through a browser is at a very high risk for this happening. Even the best PHP Developers will make frequent syntax errors like this. As long as you have FTP access, you will be able to download the file, fix the issue, then re-upload.
Also, when searching online for fixing the Rich Snippet errors like you posted, keep in mind that all themes are built/structured differently.
You'll need to access via FTP and undo the changes or restore the a backup of the theme file you edited. If you can't figure it out, PM me the FTP login details.
Thank you everyone for the quick responses. I sent you a PM with the details, for some reason I can't connect FTP. I had this problem a while back and Bruce tried to help me fix it, but we couldn't seem to figure out why I couldn't connect. So I may need some help with that as well ;)

You rock Craig!! Thank you, I'm getting that error plus this one Warning: Missing required hCard "author".. And it's working fine on other sites, but I imagine like you said it's probably because they're all on different themes. This is the only one on twentyeleven
I edited the function file so that the "updated" error goes away on pages and posts, but as for the homepage, it's going to display the two errors as the way it's displaying the homepage the date and author is missing.
The two errors aren't something you shouldn't be that worried about from what I've heard.

That's correct, your author image will still appear if Google wants to display it.
Side Note, I restored 4 of the theme files that you edited today, so any changes to the 4 files have been undone.
Awesome! Thanks again for all your help with this. Even though the site doesn't look like much "yet" I've put quite a bit of work into so far. So I appreciate you helping getting it all restored and I'll be sure to not do anymore PHP editing while in a browser :)

Sorry to resurect a 3 yr old post, I am fairly new to all this..
I had a simple task make parent category only visible on my site.
For some reason only subs show and no parent.. very frustrating.
I posted a code to the php file (function & category I believe) right at the bottom.. I have received an 500 server error.. I dont know anything about FTP access. would you be able to help me?

I know this was posted multiple months ago, so you may have already found your answer, but I can help you out with question #1
I haven't researched this lately, but did whenever Google was making the transition between places and plus. From what I found all places pages were going to merged with plus pages.
Google set no time line on how long this was going to take, but suggested that you make all information on both profiles match to speed up the process I believe my site merged about two months after the G+ profile was created.
