We’ve all heard the frase before, ‘First impression makes a lasting impression’ and for those of you havent, well their it is! I’m glad you saw it here first. Their’s no denying the truth in this statement.

We are all here at WA to learn how too create our sites. We want to provide our readers with the perfect content for them to read and maybe with the hopes that they will make a purchase and more importantly, keep coming back. We are puting a great deal of time into the design of our site, finding the perfect keyword or keywords, building content around those keywords and incorporating that with SEO. Why do I mention this? Without good keywords, poor content or shoddy SEO, we won't get any traffic. Oh, and guess what, no sales because of no traffic leads to no leaving the day job too work at home full time. I bet you now wear I am going with this!

Ok, so you have made it this far through my rant. Good for you and thank you for keeping with me. You may just be saying to yourself, Bryon this is my first impression of you and you have spelling and grammatical errors all over the place. I bet I didn’t make that great of a first impression!

This leads me to the title itself – First Impressions Make A Lasting Impression.

Let’s have a look at the above two paragraphs again, correctly this time.

I will make all of the mistakes bold on the off chance that you missed any.

Which one looks more professional to you? If this were the first article on the first page that you experienced by me, would you continue through any of my other postings and continue further into my site?

I think there are two types of people in the world when it comes to this subject. Those two types would be those who don’t care because after all, to err is human, and those who do care.

Now let’s say that those who do care were turned off by the mistakes. Would they stick around very long, dig deeper into your site, become a subscriber, repeat customer etc.? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Simply put, every single page that we post is a potential gateway for a brand new friend, customer, client or all three! So keep in mind, every page counts! Let's get both types of people to keep coming back for more.

I got to thinking about it and I realized that when I read your first paragraph I did not notice the mistakes. Part of that is because of the compensation my brain makes automatically. I grew up in Italy and am accustomed to compensating for less than perfect English from my Italian friends.
There are times I really notice grammatical errors.
It makes me wonder why.
When I was reading your post, I was looking for information, tidbits of information that I wanted or needed to hear and not reading it as a school paper.
I'm sure grammar and spelling are important, but I think we tend to forgive a lot of mistakes if there is meaning in the words!

you make some good points i competely agree with you.

Great advice!

Thank you very much Trialynn! There will hopefully be plenty more where that came from.

To our success Bryon!!

I agree and that is why you have to proof read everything you write and if possible spell check it . all the best

Maxiam59, I couldn't agree more. No one is perfect and some things may slip by, but we can eliminate the bulk of it if we just take our time and use all of the tools available to us! Thank you kindly for reading my post and contributing to it with your comments.

I only stuck around after the first paragraph because I know you from our communications within WA. I must admit that I am pedantic about spelling and grammar but there are many people (younger than me) who don't know the difference between good and bad spelling and grammar. So to anyone who is reading this who perhaps does not have a good command of English, perhaps English is their second language, I say do your best - there are other people whose command of the English language may not be perfect who WILL read your posts and comments, and they won't know the difference. Don't be afraid of writing because it may not be perfect, just do it. In time your writing will improve and you will still have reached a large audience who will not be put off by your spelling and grammatical mistakes. There is also the option of having your posts edited by someone on Fiverr if the cost is not too prohibitive. That being said, you only get one chance to make a good first impression. ~Marion

Hi Marion, excellent point(s)! I had considered touching on exactly what you just commented on. However, I wasn't sure if I had already made my post too long. Thank you very much for adding that. I don't know that I could have said it any better. By the way, I had to look up pedantic, it seems I have a new word to add to my vocabulary! Thank you very much for your contribution and taking the time to read my blog.

This is my problem Bryon. I'm not a professional writer so my self esteem is very low. The great OldMule wrote a blog about this a couple days ago. Its a phobia where i get anxiety every time i start to write a blog because i know its not gonna be perfect. Thanks for the post

Pretty perfect paragraph you just wrote. If you love to write, you will find your voice and depending on what you say grammar and dialect "imperfections" can become perfection!
Have an amazing day and God Bless!

Thank you so much, I really needed to hear that. God Bless!

Hi jazminf, this is the beauty of WA to me. If you feel you are stuck or need a second opinion of any sort, you can post it here and receive quality unbiased feedback. I will be honest with you; this small blog (which is the first one I have ever made and posted) took me nearly four hours to create. It all started with an idea that I jotted down at lunchtime in my work van. As soon as I got home, I opened Word and started typing. After I got it all out and organized the way I wanted it, I then started to proofread it. Made some corrections, additions and even deletions. I did this for quite a while actually, repeating the process over and over. When I thought it was ready to post, I had my better half look it over. Turns out there were more corrections to make that I missed. Once done, I posted. I guess my point here is, take your time, proofread, as many times as you think necessary. Then ask the community here or someone you trust to have a look. (Incidentally, I wasn't sure if proofread was one or two words so I Googled it and since Google doesn't lie, you now see it as one word!) ;) Even this reply I have created within Word first to catch any mistakes and I have read it over multiple times. It has become a habit, a good habit, one in which I think helps me greatly. You see, I am just like you in many ways. I too try to go for perfect (or as near as perfect as I can get) but for me it never happens the first time around. I'm not even sure that my blog above is perfect, but it is as perfect as I could get it. I hope this helps you realize that you too can do it, it just may take some time, like it does me. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my blog and provide me with your honest feedback. If I can be of any help in the future, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

Thank you so much Bryon for taking the time to write me back so much good advice. I really appreciate it. Take care and i wish you much success:)

Whew! I have a master's in English, so I was thinking, wow this guy is saying all the right things; but being one of "those" people, I was worrying about you due to the errors! LOL Brilliant article and no better way to make a point than with excellent language and an easy to understand visual example. Kudos and best of luck!
Have an amazing day and God Bless!!

Thank you rarediva! That means a lot to me coming from someone with a master's in English. I was hoping to make two points in one and it looks like I have succeeded. This was an experiment of sorts, as my niche will revolve around helping others with work at home businesses by giving tips and tricks.
To our success,
Bryon
