Okay y'all, time that I face my fears head on. I'm an introvert and don't use social media much at all. I have a FB account and a business page, both mostly blank, but beyond t

Good responses Bryan, and some great training links that I will check out too!

I haven't seen a crash course like what you're describing, but there are a lot of articles on social media on different people's blogs within WA ^^search bar.^^ I recently wrote one on Instagram where I'm building followers: -

But, while I consider myself an introvert, I'm doing it from "creating me as a brand angle" and trying to overcome my fears with that.

With social media, I would personally recommend starting with one at a time, because it can really suck up your minutes for not much return. As far as which one, maybe pick what appeals to you most...

The most popular is Facebook and it used to be a point of validation for a business or brand - if it has an FB page it can be trusted. Twitter I find hard and confusing to me, although some love it, so I just autoshare to it. Instagram and Pinterest I love because they are all about photos and great for click bait, but require coming up with images. Google plus is pretty much for ranking and connecting to circles of people so I just share my website posts to it.

Thanks so much for this reply. Maybe there is hope for me yet. Up until recently I thought that Twitter messages were called twits....

lol That's awesome.

Thanks for your blog Bryan! I am also in the social media black hole! I guess I'm an introvert now too. That happens w/ MS and you're no longer able to drive. I don't do any social media. I haven't even got my android yet! I am trying to tackle this social media stage too. I didn't know much about any of them either. I didn't think of asking here, I went to you tube. It got me started?!

I'll be the first to admit that I am not very sociable in real life. I'm the guy in the corner at parties and after about 5 minutes you won't find me because I've left.

I honestly can't see spending hours reading updates on social media about "friends" that we've never met and probably never will.

Good question Bryan. If it does not exist then there's also the opportunity to create training.

~Mark :)

Mark, There is probably a great idea for someone that knows social media well, but can teach from a beginner's standpoint. There are many books for advanced tactics and a couple of ebooks for beginners, but they look like they were written by someone with my knowledge level (none) ;-)

Yep, I guess the training is best done by someone who is an introvert and who can help others who feel the same way right from the get-go. Hey maybe once you get it sorted Bryan you can do it. :)

Social media training by an introverted trainer that hates social media? That has an odd ring to it, don't you think? lol

So glad that you have asked about this. I have just spent almost a week trying to set up the social media things. I have had facebook for several years , but only get on it about 2-3 times a year.
I set up the google+ and totally can not figure that out. I also have set up the twitter account. I kinda understand that one.
I know that when I signed up with Google+ all my photos on my phone started making albums. I have no clue.

I have figured out that when I share a post from face book, it apparently carries over to my Twitter and G+.

I noticed that someone supplied you with a link about it so I will be checking that out here shortly.

Quick question, are you finding it slightly more difficult navigating WA now that the layout has changed? I am, I never liked too much change so maybe it is just that I am learning so many new things already , that I have become confused.
Hey good seeing you around again, Heather

I don't think that it's more difficult, but the changed ux did slow me down a bit and make me go exploring again. Now that I am getting used to it I rather like the new ux.

I blogged about my going back through the social media section today. Unfortunately, for me it's still a big waster of time. While I registered for accounts on 3 of the 4 recommended ( not Twitter) I really don't see myself doing much with them.

There is only so much time in a day and I'd rather spend mine writing content and helping others out. Social media looks like a big rabbit hole to get lost in.

The blog I did can be seen at:

I have spent almost a week on this social net working. I understand why, we have to somehow get people to our website. If 2 people from each of our social media sites re-post it , I can see how it would snowball. So I think it is sorta a necessity. But I have been bummed about not being able to work on my content for so long.
I did also join groups that I have other interests in and a few that I thought might have some sort of connection with it.
I will talk to you later.

you are not on this walk alone, my friend. I just grit my teeth and try to get it going hoping it will become easier as time goes on.

Well, today is redo the social media section and try to get a little bit comfortable with it. Shaking my head and muttering to myself..... I guess that this is progress. To me it seems a waste of time and effort. We will see. I might wind up doing a post in coming weeks about how wrong I was.....

Hey Bryan,

I too am an introvert, so I know first hand of your fear. Today, I created a tutorial to show users how to gain social media followers and in the tutorial, I offer advice that I'm sure you would benefit from learning: Hope this helps you.

I'm committed (or maybe I should be committed) to working on social media tomorrow. I'll watch your training too. Thanks, I think....

Marys right give it a go

All right y'all, when I wake up in the morning I guess I know where and how I am spending my day.

Again Bryan !!! .. I know where you're coming from, I had no idea how to use Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google + etc but I joined them and I'm learning as I go. I have a facebook and now have one for my dogs and I still don't know how to use it properly, trial and error my friend just jump on in like I did and ask questions as you go.
Must admit there was a story in Stuff yesterday about a dog attack at a park I used to take mine to (where one of mine was attacked) I immediately tweeted it, put on my dogs facebook and Google + and do you know I was pleased I had all those available to me so I could post it and let other dog owners know what a horrible dog park it is and has been. I've been told to join snapchat have no idea what it is but I'll give it a go.
Just take the plunge, join them, learn as you go but most of all have fun :)

Hard to have fun when you are terrified! Oh well, I guess the worst that could happen is I make the Hell's Angels mad and they come to my door ;-) what could go wrong there? LOL

I guess I'll follow Rich908's advice and rewatch that section. I do remember that I didn't like it, but that was probably my unfamiliarity with the whole thing.

Just figured there might be a social media for dummies book or something ;-)

I do believe there are big yellow books with big bold black titles dummies guide to everything I should know I own quite a few of them haha. You'll be right, set up the accounts and go for it, I'll follow you :)

I probably know more about almost anything when compared to social media. I always thought it was for high school kids to chat and waste time.

Okay, I'll work on it in the morning. I promise.

it is but it's also a good media link and believe it or not I'm actually enjoying using them, only because I love showing off my two mutleys but they are useful tools although people do spam them, I was following Victoria Stillwell animal trainer but man I'm sick of the amount of tweets she puts out so I canned her haha

Just to show you how much I don't know. Until recently I thought twitter messages were called twits! I don't even read articles about social media. Guess that will change now....

The getting started course couldn't be more basic than this and believe me its the best crash course ever

I've been through all 5 levels of the course, but didn't think the social media section was particularly strong. It was missing at least 1 of the biggies (maybe Instagram??) and I din't feel like it taught me enough to be comfortable. Maybe the fear of it and I should check it out again?

Hey everybody! I'm trying to move the text in my header. I need to move it to the left to clear the image in my header. I need to get it over where the left sidebar would be. I

Hi, Bryan. That kind of customisation is theme specific. You can only customise what your theme allows you to do. That means that you will have to fiddle around and maybe read the theme documentation. You will most probably have to compromise.
Hennie

Hennie, Thanks for the answer. If moving the text isn't possible, is there a way for me to put a color block behind it to make it stand out from the image? Bryan

Sorry to disappoint you, Bryan. I can't help you. As I said, you can only do what your theme allows you to do. You can ask your theme support.
Sorry
Hennie

Hennie, the only disappointment that I have is their documentation (or lack thereof). I guess they want you to buy the premium theme. I'll just play around with other themes or header image I guess. Thanks!
