Core “Business Start Up” Training

Hi,

Hope you are all doing well and enjoying your WA journey.

I created my first site and completed the about me and privacy policy pages.

My home page is

This is normal, your homepage is your blog roll which show your latest posts in chronological order (as snippets), with a link to read the entire post.

This is normal, and what you want. When your website gets ranked and indexed, it will be the full content pages and those are the pages that people will be going directly to.

Sorry Kyle! I didn't realize you want the "About me" to be a post instead of a page. I'll have to go back thru the training to make sure I'm not confusing people. I usually make the "About me" a post so it won't have comments and so it's not a part of the blog roll.

Your home page is a feed and your feeds are set to excerpt instead of full text under your reading section in the settings menu.

I will ask why in the world did you make your About Page a post instead of page? I would also wonder why it is important the About info show on your home page instead of your post digest or a designed landing page?

Your about page is important but not a front-page maker. Your training will show you why a page is preferred for static content like the About, Privacy, and Affiliate Disclaimer pages and why feeds or post is important for marking moving content like a post that is replaced constantly by new content at the same location.

Hi there,

thnks for help.

You asked this question:

why in the world did you make your About Page a post instead of page?

I thought the training in lesson 7 explicitely suggested post vs page.See below. Have i misunderstood this?

Cheers

Neil

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST
To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Strange, never noticed that but it's counter to all other training I have seen on About me Pages which don't change, are called a page, and generally will not get comments on. You are actually more apt to get a comment on your privacy policy asking about a scenario or exception or for a means to contact you with professional inquiries from my 16 years experience.

BTW I didn't mean to come off condescending as I did. I am bipolar and sometimes word things terser than my intent.

Not at all. Was good clear advice!

Help is much appreciated. Will follow advice and change to a page.

Thanks again

Is it showing a "read more" with a button?

I think YumaBloggers' advice to convert it to a page, and add it into your menu or widgets will solve your problem. If you want the "About" page as your home page, then you'd have to copy the content, add it onto a new page, and make that page a static page.

If I'm using too much "jargon" and it's unclear, then I can send over a tutorial or something to make it clearer. Let me know.

Many thanks,

I'll follow his advice.

What i found a little confusing is lesson 7 seemed to explicitely recommend making your "about me" a post instead of a page.

Im sorry about the confusion on that. I'll go back and check that out. You'll see why it's better as a pagge though. Then, it won't show up like what you're mentioning.

You're welcome! I'm glad to see you're progressing. It's amazing how you just joined here and you have a website, privacy policy, and about page already! You're doing great!
