Revolutions versus Resolutions

So how are your new year resolutions working out approaching the first 100 days of 2016? Saturday April 9th is day 100.

Maybe for some of us our resolve is weakening. Our brain does not read the small print, and therefore we get stuck with old patterns and results, instead of committing to what we really do want.

I am sure that many people tend to focus their attention on the stereotypical resolutions, which can be just a smokescreen for underlying problems.

Instead of resolutions it would perhaps be better to consider some alternative revolutions.

  • Review my identity, mission and values, to discover who I am becoming.
  • Create purpose, joy and vision in my endeavours.
  • Know what I want from my life for the next five years in 6 key areas
  • Face up to my challenges and fears and get some help on board.
  • Feel more courageous and confident on a daily basis.
  • Take more responsibility for my continuous learning process.
  • Capture and review my my experiences and reflect more.
  • Overcome self limiting beliefs.
  • Do not put up with things I am barely tolerating.
  • Communicate more effectively with everyone.
  • Find new ways to solve issues and problems.
  • Manage my emotional states to feel more of what I want to feel.
  • Find new ways to cope with stress and anxiety.
  • Rejuvenate myself regularly and be kinder to myself more often.

Moving towards what we want, and away from what we don't want, involves not only making a mental decision, but also crossing an emotional threshold. This is where we feel comfortable, congruent and passionate about our decisions, and are subsequently willing to propel ourselves wholeheartedly towards their positive outcome.

So what do you think is best, resolutions or some alternative revolutions?

Do any of the items above resonate with you? Any other suggestions to add to the list?

Brookline---I think you've said about all! Your alternative revolutions are right on the money, and if everyone would abide by those, they could achieve their dreams, be more productive, and move ahead faster and more efficiently. Excellent suggestions!
