When All Else Fails, . Go Back to the Basics!
Hi WAmily! Been gone too long, but I haven't quit on my dream!!
Two days ago, I started a daily writing challenge to get back my writing momentum!
Half way through my first blog, since, March when Co-Vid invaded our lives, my internet connection goes out!
Trouble Shooting 101
Step 1
I needed to know whether the problem was my computer or internet service. Clearly the PC indicated "secured internet connection", and I was supposed to be on-line.
Yesterday morning, I called my PC guru that lives around the corner and asked if he could check my PC. Joe, determined that it was not my PC, as it booted right up on his internet.
"I suggest you call your provider's tech service."
Step 2
Returning home, a call was placed, and they messaged they would reset my modem. I received a text with to reply "Success" or "Failed" after reset. It had failed, so a tech would call.
Step 3
Tech promptly called, and began to "work" on the problem. An hour an a half later, no call back and no service. Time to walk away from this problem, and try again tomorrow.
Step 4
With renewed hope, this morning I reached out again. Again, my modem was automatically reset and the text message arrived to confirm, success. NOT!
Step 5
This time I waited for the call, which came, as I was about to eat lunch. Here we go again! Thankfully, it was not the guy from yesterday, but a new gal!! We walked through a couple of different processes to no avail. Her determination was my modem was bad, so a tech would have to come out in person and provide a new one. "Could you please hold for an appointment?"
Step 6
Waited for the appointment, for within the next few days!
Step 7
I'd been directed to a color bar on the modem, as this new tech had suggestedand at that time, and light was solid white, as it should be, and then it went red. was white turned red and there it stayed.
I decided I had nothing to lose so I pushed the "reset"?? button on the modem and light turned to blinking blue, and remained that way. Now what??
Step 8
I remembered one of the first things about computer trouble shooting!! Check the cords and REBOOT!!
With the tech still waiting for an appointment, I turned off all equipment for a good minute, and ...Voila! Bingo! I was on-line!!
Step 9
Cancel the appointment, we had finally confirmed!!
Step 10
Thank Chase, the tech for her help!
"Thank you, Barbara, for being part of my team today!", she said with a laugh!!
"I couldn't have done this without you! We did make a great team!"
I also asked her if she learned anything, as well? "Yes!! Try rebooting first!!"
Lessons learned
- When frustrated, it's often better to walk away from the problem, for a bit
- If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again.
- Even the experts need help sometimes.
- Try another perspective.
- Don't forget the basics
- When the going gets rough, DON'T QUIT!
- Ask for help!
3 Year Badge is coming
I haven't much to show for my 3 years, but I have learned so much from this WA community!
Co-Vid offered me an opportunity to lead a recovery meeting on Zoom since March, Monday through Friday at 9:00 AM! This is the first time in retirement that I offered to lead and stayed commited, without any excuses!
Today, I led my 150th meeting and they still want me! They like my teaching approach with preparation and objective for each. I'm also really good at remembering all names and welcoming newcomers.
I lead, but we are a team, with a gatekeeper to keep meeting safe and anonymous, and others that are called on for their expertise.
I had to get over my vanity and except my age?? Last thing I wanted was be face to face on camera!! But, ...
Seize new opportunities for growth out of your comfort zone!!
Cannot end a blog without a song...
"Turn! Turn! Turn!"- The Byrds
"To everything, there is a season and a purpose unto Heaven"
Time to put action back into my dream and "Get Back to The Basics", right here, at WA!!
Set goals that are measurable and realistic, and, ...Write them down!!
This is my 80th WA blog, and I plan to have 100 by Thanksgiving
If I write a blog a day for the next 20 days, I'll hit the mark with ease!
Feels great to have solved a major problem and to have completed a blog!
Celebrate progress! Spellcheck and grammar check is acting up, so if I missed anything here and appear to be a bit off, please forgive me as I'm way out of practice and doing the best i can for today!! LOL
Signing out for today, as tonight is Jay's awesome training, and I want a fresh head for all the great NinJay tricks he shares!! If you haven't been to Jay's Friday Happy Hour, and you're Premium?, you're missing out!!
Have a beautiful weekend everyone, and stay warm!!
Best to all!

Hi Barb, sometimes the biggest problem requires the smallest fix. Character building apparently! May be? :-).
Richard
Absolutely!
My son just said, " Well, duh, Mom!
You should have called me!"
Lessons learned!
Barb
Tech is great when it works as it should but a frustrating pain when it doesn't Barbara.
Have fun getting back to basics.
Active is right, now it's time to get active again with WA, John!

Great to see you back, Barb, and with all the modem mumbo-jumbo out of the way as well!
Jeff
I so missed you guys, but life's been...?
Lost my Michi in August, short and quick departure. Good for her, but knocked me for a loop.
I'm getting back my mojo, now that modem is cooperating!
Catch you at your place! LOL
Barb
I'm sorry for your loss, Barb, but glad to hear that you are moving again! 2020 has certainly been a trying year and that is putting it very mildly!
