My MacBook Pro Broke.

My mid 2012 MacBookPro sleeper sensor cable broke. The cable that connects to the hard drive. My laptop won’t boot up. It doesn’t recognize my hard drive.

I ordered several parts for upgrading cost me less than 150.00.

When I opened my MacBook Pro it shows file icon with a ? that constantly flashes. I knew what the problem was immediately.

I checked YouTube and it showed me what the issue was and I went online to order the parts to upgrade my laptop (including the screwdriver kits).

I opted to do it myself (DIY) than to take it into a shop or to Apple store because I knew it would cost me a lot of money. Second, I am home bound medically can’t go anywhere right now. Third, being here on WA taught me technology on how to build my website but also how to fix things that go wrong.

I figured it out that I can do it myself. All I need is the right parts and right tools and watch a simple YouTube video that shows the visual images on how to do it step by step. Last, I can’t afford to purchase a newer model besides everything’s is on my hard drive that I can’t access right now.

The products will take a few days to get to my home. For now, I have to contend with using my iPhone and iPad. I won’t be able to work on my site. My writing drafts are on my hard drive.

No, I did not back up my hard drive. I should have done that in the first place.

Oh well, lesson learned.

For now, I need to wait until I get that parts. Wish me luck to get them repaired myself. I am up to the challenge thanks to the lessons learned here on WA.

Brenda, I'm sorry to hear about the challenges. I am glad that you are confident enough to tackle the repair yourself. I hope that the problem is fixed soon.

I've come to love writing my posts on Site Content. It's not as nice as Word, which I used all of my working life. Yet I like being able to get to my draft posts from any computer or device.

Hopefully, your MacBook will be up and running again soon.


Sondra, long time no see. Thanks for stopping by. I save my writings in Word and use Grammarly app to check for grammar issues. After that, I can copy and paste in Site Content or inside my option panel on my WP theme. Hopefully the repairs will be smooth sailing. Knock on wood.

Wish you the best. I would never attempt that on my iMac, but perhaps the laptop is easier.

Bill, thank you. If I had an iMac, I would do the same thing. I do remember fixing and installing my old PC Dell desktop computer that was easy. All computers main structures are the same. Only thing different is Apple screws components are smaller that’s why it requires special screwdrivers for that.

I understand I used to in the 90's and early 200's had a desktop pc, and added hard drive etc. the newer ones are more complicated for me. Rather just take care of it and back up back up. Good luck

I ordered the parts on Amazon. I am a prime member. Yes, they do have a one day pick up but that’s downtown Portland, Oregon. They do have drone delivery already implemented but it’s for Portland area. I think. I’m east of Portland in Gresham. Right, darn they do not do drone delivery in this town. I will receive 3 parts tomorrow and 2 parts on Saturday. At least being a Prime member has its rewards. Looking forward to repairing my precious laptop.
