That is correct. You do not have to spend any money to rank your website. Google will automatically rank you if they decide that your website/page is the best result for the thing a person is searching for.
You CAN pay for the top 1-3 spots, but those are labeled as "ads" in search results. Just talking about normal search results, you do not have to pay for those!
Awesome thanks for the quick reply. That's what I thought but wasn't sure. Makes it a lot easier to get into this without more spending hah!
Bren, do take note that paid traffic like Google Adwords or Bing PPC is very fast and you can get traffic almost immediately. For SEO it will take some time for Google to search your content n rank it. But its worth it in the long run. So if you want fast traffic to your website, you need to pay. Cheers :)

Hi, AdWords is paid search and does not have any effect on your natural ranking.
SEO is the way to go to be ranked nicely naturally.
