I am creating my business plan and plan to monetize by combination of affiliate marketing and advertising once I get enough traffic. Any tips for financial projections with thi

You can plan and project but it will often come out differently...

For planning purposes, however, you can use the data available to you as of now, set targets and include from what source you plan for the traffic, then extrapolate...

Let's say that you plan on doing 3 posts a week using keywords having low competition but a decent amount of monthly traffic of 400 per keyword...

Let's keep things simple for this exercise...

If you can get to the first page with your content let's say you plan for at least 20% of that traffic to hit your website...

So over a period of 1 year, you will have 156 posts that have a potential of drawing in 100 site visits each per week...At 20 % that means you will have about 3000 visitors per week,,,

If 2% of those visitors take action it means you will have 60 potential sales a week (.02 x 3000 visitors)...Of those 60 maybe 20% will follow through all the way to the end and buy...

That gives you 12 sales a week, or about 50 per month...Depending on the product and commission structure for those items you are selling or promoting, then do the math to come up with an estimated dollar figure...

If you explain the process in your plan it will be clear for you and for others reviewing the plan...I would also have someone else look at your process to see if it makes sense to them...

On advertising, you could do some research to see what the general consensus is as to the monetization you might expect having the volume of traffic you project...

It will all be a plan, and starting out with no data other than what you plug in to go on, a bit sketchy, but having some kind of goal based on what you find from research will help give you a picture of where you could potentially be in one year and the path to get there...

You then will have a good task list for daily, weekly and monthly actions you need to build into your work schedule, and you can measure your results as you go along...

Or...

Of course, you could also do a 'SWAG' (Simple/Sorry Wild A$$ Guess) but that likely will not help much! : )

Cheers!

Gosh Dave you always have such smart responses!! I feel like I need to delete my ignorant comments!

Not at all, I read through your comments here and elsewhere and they are always helpful! I appreciate your input on the platform...You add value with a touch of humor and insight, something we can all learn from....

Cheers and enjoy the weekend, here tomorrow is a workday again : ( (It's OK, I like what I am doing so it is not even like work!)...

Appreciate that Dave, but I always learn from your comments. :)

Wow, thanks so much.

That's good you have a business plan. It's hard to do financial projections on blogs. So many various to consider, how much you blog a week, how many words per post, how will google rank your posts, etc.

That's what I imagined. I am doing it through a women's business program through the Women's Business Association. So, I need to do it but don't know how! I am creating my site to be a very big website with eventually enough followers and subscribers to make a lot of our money through advertising. But how do you predict that? Eeeh, tough one.

I've always hated forecasting. Lol

Especially without history, and/or never done before. It may take a few months before you have any data to look at as well.

If it's for school, just make it up... look at the successes here and see if you can make a guess from that:

Is there a place to see real data on financial successes?

Well, ask those people on my list and see if they will share their data with you. Best of luck! :)

Oh just saw the link. :)
