It's About Attitude, not Aptitude

In The Winner’s Edge Denis Waitley stated,

“The real leaders in business, in the professional community, in education, in government, and in the home also seem to draw upon a special cutting edge that separates them from the rest of society. The winner’s edge is not in a gifted birth, in a high IQ, or in talent. The winner’s edge is in the attitude, not aptitude."

I will be the first to admit that I am my own worst enemy. And you are probably yours as well. But I'm learning after a couple of decades of adulthood that confidence isn't only possible, it's essential!

I'd bet some of these thoughts run through your head every day...

• Why would anyone buy something from me?
• Who in the world is going to read this?
• There's more work that I am capable of doing.
• The learning curve is just too steep and I'm just too inexperienced.

And you could very likely add your own. The point is, much of our lack of success is the result of our own self-limiting beliefs.

Let me insert here that the antidote to self-limiting beliefs is not pride or arrogance that is blind to weakness and that cannot be corrected.

Rather, the antidote is to believe some different realities and live them out whether we feel them on a daily basis or not.

For example, think about these truths:

• You have as much potential to succeed as anyone else who ever hustled.
• You care about other people, not just yourself.
• You have some solutions to the problems that lots of people are facing.
• You can definitely do this!!

And remember that attitudes are:

• Contagious. They spread - especially the bad ones.
• Subjective. It really is all in your mind and your experience.
• Powerful. Bad attitudes can spoil your good, hard work.

This isn't anything new. You've heard it all before. But until you believe it, you need to hear it again. You CAN DO this!

When you finally believe you can, that's when you will.
