The parties not over!

In my most recent post I give credit to Site Support! And I should have also thanked Carson for pointing out the need for our websites to perform well in Google.

This morning I checked my performance with Google and got a massive score of 0/100 for mobile and 29/100 for desktop.

I started scratching my head and thought to myself " I have been dressing up all this time and I never got to the party" .

I want to go to that party so I did some digging and found a plugin which I find AMAZING.

I could not download the API key for this plugin so Site support did that for me.

Most of you probably know the plugin but for those who don't it's called TinyPNG.

https://tinypng.com/

After downloading the API key I got into my media and compressed my images. Bear in mind, I can can minify code to get even better performance.

These are the results:

Mobile score 92/100

Desktop score 93/100

From 0/100 to 92/100 and 29/100 to 93/100 respectively is fantastic in any one's books.

In my opinion it is a lot easier and quicker than having to learn Udacity to compress your images.

Oh by the way, is there any one else using Tiny PNG. And if there is, what are your thoughts about this plugin?

On a final note, I hope this post helps someone!

Thank you for sharing, Brad.

Agree and I have a speed problem that I am planning on tackling this weekend at the latest. Jay

Yes, it is surprising how the images slow down our sites.

Thanks for sharing, Brad.

Thanks, Roger!

I think its a great little plugin

No problem, Brad.

Good information, thanks!

Jump in there and celebrate Brad!

Thanks for the info and good job! How did you check your performance scores with google?

Go to your site manager and on your login, you will see on the right-hand side detail. Click on that and you will see a list on your site performance. On the right-hand side, you will see a G symbol. Click on that and it will take you straight to Google test page

Thank you!

Okay, I checked mine and mobile was 40 and desktop was 80. From my understanding, this is related to site speed, not really site performance would you say? I downloaded TinyPNG and I activated it. Instead of activating the API key, it asked for me to register via email and then I activated the plugin through email and I believe the API key activated too because it's working now. Thanks for the help!

Your Welcome

I relate performance to speed as well. If it doesn't have the speed it won't perform.

When I tried saving the API key in the back end of WP under TinyPNG account it came up with cannot connect to server 7. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it but to no avail, that;s why I had to contact our server through Site support. I gave them the API key and voila, all fixed.

Good to hear I have helped you Robbie.

Cheers mate,

Brad

Thanks for the follow!

Thanks for the info. Just one more question, are you doing anything to compress your images? Or just letting TinyPNG do the work?

I started out learning Udacity but it is time-consuming. I will continue on learning but this is far easier and so much faster.

Some of my images have been compressed by 84% with a click of a button. And I have lots of them that would take me hours doing it myself. And I need these images because my niche is Black Opal and people need to see the colours and directional play through several images of just the one gemstone.

I have that many images I ended up buying the pro version which is only $25 for a year for one subscriber which I think is really good value for this product. I checked out all the reviews before I bought it and they are all excellent reviews and it rates well on top.

When I first started in WA I knew nothing at all. And if I knew back then what I know now I guess I could have compressed the images myself one at a time as I went along but now I have so many! And this TinyPNG was a HUGE relief to solve the speed and performance problem of my website

Hope it goes well for you!

Tiny's doing all the work!

Very cool! So with download TinyPNG, that's it. I won't have to do anything myself to compress my images? How long does it usually take to compress them all? I noticed my site speed stats have only moved a bit so far.

Get into your dashboard and click media. Three options will appear. Click on the bottom one Bulk Optimization. When this opens follow the prompts and your image library will open up. There you can compress and see the results on the right hand side of the page.

BUT MAKE SURE YOU GET RID OF ANY UNWANTED IMAGES IN YOUR MEDIA LIBRARY BEFORE YOU START THIS PROCESS BECAUSE IT WILL COMPRESS ALL YOUR IMAGES.

Gotcha! I am in the process right now.

Great, and the time depends on how many images you have!

Awesome, thanks for the help!

No worries Robbie, all good!
I am happy I have been able to help.
