What I Learned From Falling Down The Stairs

The house we live in is an old two-story house built back in the 1830s. Inside the house there is a beautiful old wooden staircase that goes up to the second floor where the bedrooms are.

The Dance Scene

The other morning early in the morning our black lab decided that he could now wait until his normal going out time and needed to go out to the bathroom right now. In his gentle persuasive way (If you have had a black lab you know what I am talking about.) He woke me up to let him out.

Normally he would wake up my wife but this time he chose me for the door opening duty.

With me half asleep and him fully awake down the stairs we went.

On the third step from the bottom my barefoot decided to not grip the step but to slip off of it. Needless to say stepping on air going down the stairs leads to some interesting movements. Videos of the falling down the stairs dance would have gone viral.

I did the grab the rail, and try to catch yourself down to the bottom of the stairs dance.

The grand finale of the dance was me sitting down at the bottom of the stairs.

To make things worse I think the dog was laughing by this time.

The good news was that the only thing that was hurt was my pride. I found out I can still bounce pretty good at 65.

Well, after that happened I got to thinking about falling on the stairs and how it relates to Wealthy Affiliate. I know my mind goes strange places sometimes.

Anyway, after some research on the Internet I found the connection.

The statistics for Stairway injuries are

  • Over 1 Million injuries occur each year as the result of stairway falls.
  • Staircase and stairway accidents constitute the second leading cause of accidental injury, second only to motor vehicle accidents.
  • Each year, there are 12,000 stairway accident deaths.

So scary stuff right. So how does that relate to Wealthy Affiliate.

In my research for this post I found out It seems if you are going up the stairs and you fall there is seldom any injuries and normally not major injuries. Most of the falls are minor injuries from falling while going up the stairs.

After thinking about it I could see why that would be true.

If you are going down the stairs or standing still on the stairs and fall that is when major injuries happen and people are even killed by falling on the stairs.

Okay, Okay, here is the way it relates to Wealthy Affiliate.

If you are doing the training here at Wealthy Affiliate and being consistent with the training when you run into a problem the chance is that it will not destroy you. You will be able to keep going.

If something happens in your life and you were moving up at the time chances are you just get up and brush yourself off and continue on.

  • If you have not been doing much
  • If you have not been consistent
  • If you only do something every few days or weeks
  • If you have not been moving forward
  • If you have not been working the training
  • If you have not been getting encouraged by the community

Then just like falling down the stairs the the chances are that when you run into a problem doing something it might set you back and even make you quit altogether.

Moving backward or standing still here at Wealthy Affiliate, not working on the training, not working on your sites, just like on the stairs, is a dangerous place to be.

Moving onward and upward helps us when we fall get up and keep going.

Doing nothing for long periods of times can destroy us.

If you fail do it while moving up in the training and learning as it is a whole lot safer.

Hope you learned how ton get up!

Hugz

It took me a bit as I did inventory making sure everything was still working.

Glad you bounced but then again you're always in upward mode!
Thanks Bo!

Yes I am glad I bounced also. Onward and Upward.

Glad to hear that you were not hurt!

Me to

I trip over my own 2 feet and because I have a disability that affects my balance I've fallen so many times that I don't bounce back so fast anymore---glad you weren't hurt

Bounced like a round ball. Longs I hit on my head or my butt I will be okay.

Great story, Bo.

Thanks Glen

Bo, you were fortunate not to be hurt quite badly! I had a fall years ago landing on my rear and did terrible damage requiring back surgery and on another occasion tripped up the stairs fracturing my wrist .... so I get your message experientially!! I don't want to fall at all but I'd rather it be onward and upward!

You and me both

Yeah, I could just see the dog laughing, Bo.! I will send you a bike helmet soon.
All kidding aside, yes when you fall learn HOW to fall to minimize injury, dust yourself off and keep going.

Maybe all those years rodeoing helped me remember how to fall. LOL I think the dog still remembers it from time to time because he smiles and looks at me funny.

Rodeoing definitely helps balance.

Thank you for the eye opening statistics

I thought you like my story of dancing and falling gracefully down the stairs. LOL

This is right where I am, so very relevant for me,thanks.

I am glad it is relevant.

That is a lovely post I'm glad you were moving and Ok ...yes we must keep going forward, brush ourselves off and keep going. Thanks for the great post :)

You are welcome.
