You Can Spend To Much Time Checking Your Site

Someone asked me today

"How often do I need to check my sites statistics."

I know you have already heard you can spend to much time checking your stats

Some people stop several times a day checking to see if the hit counter changed.

Yes, that is to much and not a wise use of time.

Sometimes if I have an ad campaign working that I have not used before I might check them once a day but that it rare.

If I had spent a lot of time checking my stats this site would not be getting the traffic it does. I spent the time building it instead of checking stats.

Do not get me wrong checking stats has it value along with tracking your advertising.

Most of the time I do it once a week on the same day every week and I check all my sites the same day. That way I can plan my work for the week according to what I see.

For instance if I change something today then check it tomorrow I might think it is not working. Not because it is not working but because it has not had time to work. Then I would change it back without finding out if it worked or not.

I use a lot of free ads and a few paid ads but it takes several days for them to work. By checking my stats once a week I give them time to work before I fine tune them.

So the moral of the story is don't spend to much time checking you stats but spend that time building you site to get more traffic to change the stats.
