Are you kidding me! Backlinks?

Okay now why in the world am I doing a blog post on backlinks when I just did a training on them.

Because I know some of you are wondering if it really works. You are asking can it make a difference in my site?

Let's start off with, "What in the world is a backlink?"

Simple terms it is a link you make by placing your URL on a different site back to your site.

Yippee a backlink

Now what good does it do my site.

It leaves a place elsewhere on the Internet where someone can find you. They see a comment you left, want to more about what you do, click the link and they are on your site. An easy way to get traffic.

Are you going to get a lot of traffic?

Depends on how many links you have out.

Does Google pay attention to your backlinks?

Sure they do. You get links from a bunch of spammy sites or on what is called link farms and you will know they have paid attention to you. The attention will not be pretty.

Once upon a time you could go out and buy a bunch of backlinks and get ranked. Didn't take long for search engines to figure out that one. Especially with people advertising backlinks for sale. Down went that way of ranking.

Some say backlinks are old school and are a waste of time.

They do not do what they used to but they are still a very valuable part of you getting traffic back to your website.

That is why Jay in his training on traffic mentions commenting on blogs and forums. It still works

So does it work?

Here is one of my sites

It didn't happen overnight.

It took the same effort I talked about in the training video #30.

Is it worth it?

It gets me an average of 300 new visits a day from people who are interested in what is on my blog. Did you get that. Not 300 visitors but 300 visitors a day just from back links "Who Are Interested In What I Am Doing".

Muliplty 300 by 30 and see if you would like to have that many targeted visitors a day.

From tracking who does what when they come to my website this old school backlink traffic is responsible for a little over a third of the sales on my site.

You decide if it is worth the effort.

I didn't go into a long discussion about backlinks and the pros and cons. That is for another time.
