Have you seen this before?

Do you still have links on your website linking to google+ pages that show this content above? I still run across some old websites that I built for friends and old clients that have the social media button in the <follow> sections of their website. You wil notice a lot of pages that have links in the footer or header or maybe sidebar.

I am swicthing the link instead of removing it.

I have been removing or replacing links for the icons in the websites I still control.

On some of the pages, I have started changing the icon link to the review page that google gives you for local businesses. If your page is connected to a Google My Business. Google will give you a link to share for getting reviews. I have done this on a number of sites I manage for local businesses. This only works when you have full control of the entire link in your wordpress dashboard. Some older plugins only asked for <username> or <google plus id> with the rest of the url being control by the plugin or theme code function.

The theme I use has a place for the entire Google Plus URL. In that field, I add the get reviews link that google gives me in local business dashboard.

The Review Link looks like this

The blacked out area is the actual short name given to this business by Google. You get that in the business edit section located on the info tab. Look for "Google Short Name" or @ symbol It is kind of like usernames on facebook or handles on twitter.

What do you think?

I would be interested to know what the WA comunity thinks about this?

Do you think this is a Good idea?

Should we simply remove the social media icon and links altogether?

My gut tells me that this is a good way to get some more traffic and reviews possibly if that is the link you are using. I see no harm in it but would like to hear from others...

It can be hard to get dinged when you are using assets that Google owns for such links...This is why we are tapping into the free Google Site feature and Google Docs, YouTube, and Blog dot com to set up some indirect and direct links to the site/pages we are trying to get some SEO juice for...

Another source for some quality links is Amazon S3....You can set up pages and link them to the Google site and etc. the same way. Of course, both Google-owned platforms and Amazon are high-quality links so theoretically they should help?

Testing at this phase...If we do see an uptick in organic traffic, we will expand this to al the areas of focus for the business...Right now it is in its infancy...

Good tip, thanks for sharing! Let's see what others have to say about your idea!

Cheers!

Thanks for the Input Dave!

Kyle, what are your thoughts about this?

My own thoughts about this over time has been to become a paying member of G Suite. It includes G+ as well as other non-consumer goodies, which include Google support whereas none of the consumer grade products do.

The cost is $12/user/month for the Business edition. Remember, has 24/7 Google support!

As for local accounts, could this be offered to clients, for the cost and labour? Just having G+ back is worth it I think.

Hi, Daniel...

We are using GSuite and I like it so far (hmm, maybe 6 months or so we have used it)...Lots of benefits and it is a good way for me and the partner to stay in contact...

Cheers!

Hey there Dave :)

Which edition are you using? Yes, from what I can see there for the money, it's actually outstanding. Amazon's Web Services are certainly comprehensive but they are more expensive. I had the S3 but had to drop it, but of course, I used the cloud storage and if you are not careful, that can add up very quickly.

Hmm...I am not sure...I did not know there were GSuite editions! It does work well and you do have some nice tools and unlimited storage, etc.

On Amazon S3, we are just getting started (I have some help putting it together on a trial right now) so I cannot say how expensive it might be...

I have had an account with them for a few years, and use it to store images and videos for training courses and e-commerce stores.

My average bill is like $1.50 a month!

The one you have to look out for from my experience is the Google Maps tool. We have a map to our business address on various websites, and we also tap into that API for some lead generation activities...

So far, I have not had to pay anything as I keep the use down, but I have read some horror stories so I do watch it. I try to use tools that have the API as part of the service (so I do not have to pay hehe)...

: )

Yes, there are three:

Basic
Business
Enterprise

They are $6, $12, $24.

You mentioned unlimited storage so you have at least, the Business edition. This is also the most popular of the three.

I eventually had most of my data on the servers and that started running $48/month and I got behind. I do need to start purging because I've got, for example, install programs as old as the World Wide Web still in my archives, even some programs and media from the days of the BBSs that only work under DOS though not many and they are microscopic compared to modern programs!

So you are sticking to the APIs that come bundled with your account? Good idea to stick to those!

As for G Suite, the unlimited cloud storage is very appealing to me!

Yep...it is the business account package and I only have the co-founder and myself as members now. We pay $24 a month...The storage is great, I am using to store and deliver some of the products we have and we are in the process of tieing in some of the other features as I mentioned in earlier comments.

The Google platform still has so much to offer for free, but just as with Amazon, you have to know what is being charged or going to be to cut the cost down. I am really learning a lot from this thread(s) - cool stuff!

: )

Thanks Dave, I appreciate your input! Yes, Bo has definitely opened some interesting stuff here!

@DaveSw Thanks for the discussion - Lots of great comments to consider. I have a few domains using organization gmail. but not full upgrade to gsuite. i use all the apps on google drive available to me for free. I do have an upgrade on space to my personal gmail account..

thanks for adding to discussion. I tried to tag both you and daniel at same time. i guess that does not work here like it does on twitter and fb

Bo I think that is a really smart move!:)

Thanks a bunch for the tips and review request url
I had looked for that a while back and gave up lol.

Cheers Rob

You are welcome - I think its a good idea.

I appreciate the alert, but so far I have seen nothing like this I received any information. I’m not sure what to think.

if you weren't linking to google plus profiles you would probably not be aware. Thanks for checking in and commenting.
