Is Yahoo Spamming Me?
I have a lot of websites out there on the World Wide Web .I have built websites for bands, events, and small businesses. I see a lot of spam. Rarely do I ever allow comments to be posted without moderation. I highly suggest that you have the hold for moderation option in place on your WordPress blog websites if you allow comments.

Recently, I have received several comment spam emails usually giving some false praise of my website with a link to ...... YAHOO. Why would a company this big leave the url sports.yahoo. com or other yahoo subdomains in the website url field of the comment form? Surely yahoo is not hiring spammers to post their links everywhere as comment spam.
My guess is that the person spamming me is simply trying to start communication or testing my form to see if it is moderated or not. Had their comment gone through, I would probably start seeing a deluge of email comment spam hitting that website.
This is one of the most alarming questions that should set your spam aware systems on alert and code red.....
"Your website is so fast... can you send me an affiliate link of your website host to check it out?"
....Sure... I could send you my login info so that you can see the stats and how much money I make on that program as well. I don't think so.. Delete!
I think nearly every offer you ever receive via WordPress comments will more than likely be tied to some kind of scam. Be Aware! Please don't fall for this junk.

I completely agree with you Bo. Not moderating comments is a very bad practice in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing Bo! I do have moderation turned on and I followed Kyle's advice on the settings of the askimet plugin. Most spam comments get deleted right away. I know that there's a risk that some genuine comments get deleted also. However, most of the comments that are genuine will go straight to my inbox.
I've got moderation turned on but check spam as genuine comments sometimes go in there.
I've had quite a few where there is just a you tube link, they go straight in the trash!
thanks for the warning I shall be keeping my moderation on , they certainly stop at nothing .
Yes they do.. It can be very embarassing to see some of that stuff pop up for public view
