Google Adsense - My Two Cents

I wanted to drop some tips and observations on probably one of the most known ways to monetize a blog and website. I am seeing members talk about their earnings. It is great to see that initial income from a website you own and built from scratch. Having those ads and seeing earnings on a website is exciting for someone that has never made any money from a website. Keep in mind it is not the only way to make money from a website.. but if you are fortunate enough to get approved for an adsense account. Make sure you don't lose it.

My tips for Newbie GA publishers

  • Don't talk about your earnings and provide links to your website in the same blog post or page. This could be seen as asking people to look at the ads..This a BIG NO NO to Google.
  • Don't ever ever ever click on ads that show up on your website. This is fraud and will be detected by G.. You will lose your account.

Why is that ad showing on my website?

Is this a question you have asked before? Have you seen ads that you thought were totally wrong for your site? Consider this, your history is probably overriding content generated ads. If you are seeing strange dating sites all over your websites... Either you or someone in your household has most likely been to one of the sites you are seeing.. or been to a similar website and Google thinks you would want to see the alternatives.

Am I a control freak by wanting to control the ads to my site? I'm not ready but you make it sound like AdSense is really worth it.

Ideally you control all advertising and all links. You will not see a lot of value from Google Adsense until you get traffic... and for some members here, google adsense is not the way to go. Affiliate programs that pay for sales is a better plan and income stream.

Everyone needs to decide on their own if they have a site that can benefit from GA.

Thanks for your insight. Debbi

Thanks for the good info. So just put the Adsense on you home Page?

If you can get approved by google to publish adsense on your website, I recommend publishing 2 to 3 ads on every page (3 is what they allow and recommend as well)

You need at least one of them above the fold ( able to be seen without scrolling)

It takes traffic to really make money with adsense. Many people here are much more profitable running other products besides adsense.

Thank you so much for the answer.

I only use one Google ad per website and a couple other ads that relates to the content

Can you explain a little bit more about "Don't talk about your earnings and provide links to your website in the same blog post or page. This could be seen as asking people to look at the ads..This a BIG NO NO to Google." so if i'm promoting WA I shouldn't have a link to WA there?

Google Adsense Terms do not allow you to tell people to click on the adsense ads. When you say I have made $X from google adsense.. click here to see my website... an provide a link. you are essentially telling someone to go to your website so that they can see google ads on the website. Your friends and family will almost always click on an ad when you tell them to visit a website to see google adsense on them.. this is seen as fraud.

Your links to WA fro your website are not google adsense ads. This is different -YES YES YES you want to tell people to click on your WA ads from your website.

Thanks for clearing that up for me as newbie and not knowing these things this is very helpful info.

Not that I use Google Adsense, but if you are suffering from the "history" problem how would you get around it? Most people use the internet for an awful lot more than just running their websites and it's not practical to keep clearing your history or cache every five minutes, which you might wish to keep anyway.

Its not a problem...I am just clarifying why you see specific ads on your website.... When you run Google Adsense, you really have no choice what companies are shown there.. you can prevent some from running and specific categories like mentioned below..

Good points :)

Thanks Shawn - as always I appreciate you taking the time to read and provide feedback.

my google ad has a 5% CTR so I don't care what they put on my site and to help me not care I use firefox and turn the permission for java off and that way I never even see the Google ads.
I also label my Google ads " Google approved " ppl trust Google I made .80 cents on my first day with adsense

Nice - Thanks for sharing this Crazy Monk!

Fun fact: Paying attention to Google Ads just before the holidays can provide for some good gift clues if you're in the same household. XD

Great post, Google always does a good job of basing their ads on cookies and their secret heavy algorithms.

Just make sure they didn't already buy it... My girlfriend bought a shelf unit for amazon... she was looking at the same shelf unit for about 2 weeks on every site she visited.

Oh, haha, good point.

Thanks have added that yet good information.

You are welcome Brenda - Good Luck!

thanks

It may be a good idea to look into click fraud prevention too. I had someone on my site one day jumping from page to page clicking ads as they went. I pulled the ads and reported it to Google. Luckily I didn't lose my account but some others have not been so fortunate.

Thanks Steve - Good Advice

Steve hope you do not mind me asking a question have read this blog and comments but I am not sure what it is all about, can any one just add adverts onto your site, if so how do I prevent this

Hi Katie,
No, only you can place ads on your site :)

thanks that is a relief cause I do not want rubbish going onto it

If you place google adsense code on your website, then you may be getting what you call Rubbish Katie... You can't control the ads that google shows on your website... you can make sure certain ones do not show up if you use the controls... sorry to confuse you. A lot has been discussed here on this post

Don't worry, most of the rubbish will be left in your comment box lol.

I really regret losing adsense. It was an easy $200/month for me.

I lost an account that was making that kind of money.. not really sure why. .. I think it might have been the pages i had the ads running on.. GA used to let you park your domains on their server and let google ads show up on the pages.. when they discontinued it.. I took all of the domains that I had parked with them and created pages similar to what they had... It was not long after that, the account was terminated.

I still to this day don't know what happened with mine. Maybe I had a mobile setting wrong somewhere. That's the best guess I can come up with.
