Did you fall for the Generic Ranking Email?
I got another one of those unsolicited emails again...
"I was searching related to your business on Google and saw your website is not on first page on Google for most of the relevant and user oriented keywords pertaining to your domain so I was wondering.....
If you would be interested in getting very Affordable Search engine optimization done for your website.
You Can contact me with:-
1) Any 10 Keyword to rank in Google
2) Website URL
Have you ever fell for one of those or know anyone that has replied to them? Hopefully if you are a member here, you have learned about these proposals and potential scams. I am not saying that the person that sent me this email is not capable of getting high quality searches, I just think without telling me what website they are referring to, or what keywords they are referring to or anything about what they are researching gives tells me that this may be a scam.
I have to mark this up as NOT A SERIOUS OFFER and POTENTIAL SCAM. This service is something that you can offer and actually make money doing. Spamming an unknown business with a lot of unspecific general comments is not the way to get the business. I would not hire someone to help with my google ranking, but if I was going to hire someone.. it would take more than an email like the one above.
I never reply to these, but I would love to ask them why they are asking me the url when they obviously did the research.. and go ahead and make the proposal based on what you found instead of asking me to do the work that you have obviously already done based on your unsolicited email....
Al the tools are here at WA to learn how to do this yourself. Go through the training and learn how to get high ranked pages on Google so that emails like this can be laughed at and ignored. It never hurts to read them and think about what you would do different or say different given the chance to offer this service to another business.
Best of Luck to you as you achieve top rank on the search engines.

There's a lot of these doing the rounds and some of them do look quite genuine, but as you said, if they know the URL and KW's, why ask you to supply them? Just another unscrupulous person after our hard-earned cash :)
I haven't come across any of those, but thanks for the heads up. I don't think I would have fallen for them anyway, but it's good to know they are out there. Thanks!
If you have privacy on your domain, you are less likely to see them.. Of course the more domains you have, the more your will get. I have hundreds of domains
Oh yes, I can get you on Google Page 1.... Just ask these people for what term. Most of the callers do not have the script to answer the question. At least say first page of results.. Most website hosts could not handle a link from google.com home page if it were possible to get
I haven't seen that one, or fallen for it, but I sure do appreciate the heads-up - thanks!

Good looking out, Bo. Though I haven't encountered any of these yet, I know I have to be more cautious about any email that sounds "too good to be true". Thanks for posting.
You are welcome - Most people here at A wouldn't fall for the scam. It is a great talking point for those looking to get in to building websites for local businesses. Reference this type of solicitation tell them why it is bad and then offer the business the right way of building a website..
