When a Domain Name is Internet Real Estate

I remember when I first started here at WA what Kyle said about what a domain is like. He said a domain name is like internet real estate and can even be sold for a profit in the future if we wanted. I didn't think about that last part until recently.

THE MOST POPULAR TLD IS A DOT COM

I started buying my domain names from the NameCheap registrar on Kyle's recommendation in the early days of my membership. WA was not yet a domain name registrar like it is now. I still purchase and maintain my domain names there.

The other day while making sure I had enough money in my internal funds account for upcoming automatic renewals, I noticed that NameCheap was offering different Top-Level Domain names to my dot com of Hemp So Good. Why did they do this?

Whenever a popular search term or brandable name is used for a domain, there will be many other people searching that same name to buy it. Rarely do you see other TLDs in demand. These less popular TLDs available are .net, .org, .tech, .me and .co.

None are more sought after than a .com TLD, almost everyone wants one. Internet real estate is even a very profitable online business opportunity, more on this in just a bit. Just know, that when you see the domain you want, buy it immediately.

MY TLD SITES ARE WANTED INTERNET REAL ESTATE

I came up with Hemp So Good while listening to the radio. The John Mellencamp song Hurts So Good was playing and my future website name just popped into my head. I immediately searched to see if it was available. It was, I bought it right then.

It is highly important that once you decide on a domain name with a .com TLD, buy it immediately because it may not be available tomorrow. Why the rush? Can I just think about it for a while? You could but if a domain flipper wants it, they will buy it.

What is Domain Flipping? It's when you buy a domain name as cheap as possible, do nothing with it, and resell it for more money to an interested party. It does take a little know how to do Domain Flipping, but it can become quite lucrative.

I actually did this to my neighbor. I knew he had started a company and I knew what the name was. Then I searched for the domain and found it was available. I bought it for $12.00 and sold it for $500.00, a quick $480.00 profit. He didn't know it was me.

IT'S NOT QUITE DOMAIN FLIPPING BUT I JUST MIGHT

Though I have no intention to sell my Hemp So Good .com domain, because I want to start that website at some point, I may decide to sell the domain for my video game website. I haven't worked on this site for more than 6 years, it maybe time to flip it.

NameCheap has it's own domain marketplace, where members can sell their domains yet have it available to not just NameCheap members but to everyone looking to buy a TLD. Like Kyle has said, a domain name is like internet real estate.

I just started looking into the correct way to do domain flipping and I can now see why this is a very low-cost and profitable opportunity to get into. Like all types of legitimate internet businesses, Domain Flipping takes time to make a profit.

I am always looking at new trends, new companies and then seeing if relevant domains are both available and worth investing in. Have any of you done Domain Flipping? If you have any questions or comments on this, please leave them below.

I have not tried this, Rob, but I'm certainly interested in learning more. This sounds like a great idea...and clever on you for scooping up that business name!

Susan

This is something I am going to learn more about in my spare time. It looks like a great low-cost investment opportunity.

I tried that a time or two, Rob! It was very interesting, indeed!

Jeff

Thank you for your input Jeff. Most appreciated.

You're very welcome, Rob!

Jeff

Interesting stuff Rob...

I have looked into domain flipping in the past, and if one really ķnows what they are doing, there is serious scratch to be made...

Definitely something worth looking into more in the future!

Appreciate the share my friend and enjoy the rest of your week!

You are welcome Nick. Happy to have shared it. This is something I will look into and learn about.

The nice thing about this opportunity is that it can be done on the side as I build my affiliate business.

Absolutely Rob, thanks again my friend!

Hi Boom. I used to buy and sell domains. Namepros used to be good back in the day (and it's free) but I haven't used it in years. Check it out because it may not be the same or as good now.

Paul

Thank you Paul. I will definitely check out Namepros and see if they will be an asset in this investment endeavor.

Hi, Rob

Domain flipping can be very profitable, especially aged domains that have high-value do-follow backlinks attached to them.

I’m not interested in pursuing this market but it’s fun to learn about.

All I care about is my music and the guitar site I’m building. 😎

This is my field! So, I want to learn! lol

Me too, Shakida! I'm a lifetime learner. 😎

I agree with you Frank, aged domains with do-follow backlinks and authority are the best.

The act of domain flipping is more of an investment than an actual form of business, in my option.

Something I am going to start doing every once in a while as I build my second affiliate marketing business.

Hi, Rob

I might find and buy a musical aged domain with a high DA and redirect it to my guitar site, someday.

Haha, it’s on a very big to-do list! 😎
