There are many great benefits to being a member of Wealthy Affiliate, (WA). Aside from the great training that can turn a non-techie newbie into a successful internet marketer, we have a helpful community with a variety of people all with different likes and dislikes.

BASICALLY, WA IS A GREAT PLACE FOR INFO

I am currently, and finally, getting around to buying another computer. I am 80-90% sure it will be a computer running Windows 10, which is what I currently use on my Sony Vaio laptop. But if you can convince me in the comments below that I should buy an Apple, perhaps I will.

THIS IS THE CRITERIA FOR BUYING THIS ADDITIONAL COMPUTER

1. It cannot be more than $300.00 USD complete

2. It can be either a laptop or a desktop computer with monitor

3. It has to be new

4, It does not need to be super fast, meaning, it doesn't need to be a gaming computer

Now I know that there are a lot of different brands and types available. Personally the only brands I have used in my oh so long experience with computers are Sony, HP, Compaq and iMac. I have never used any other brand.

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

What kind of computer do you have? Is it a laptop or a desktop with a monitor?

Do you use an Apple or a computer with a Windows OS?

I am looking to not spend more than $300.00 USD, so what would you recommend?

Do you think I should switch to an Apple computer and if so, why?

Can you even get a new Apple for $300.00 USD?

Let me and everyone else reading this post know what you think. Tell us what you use and what you like about your computer. If you know what is the best computer under 300 dollars from your own experience, or others, let us know below.

I know if Kyle or Carson were to comment, they would probably recommend I switch over to Apple. I already use an iPad but still haven't bought an Apple computer yet. Perhaps now is the time?

Why buy new. You can get twice the computer secondhand and if it works it works. No warranty needed.

I agree. Newegg has great refurbished deals that I have never had a problem with.

That thought had crossed my mind and I may go that route, especially if I can find a good deal. Maybe more bang for my buck.

Never bought from Newegg but have seen them advertised. Do they offer great deals?

Yes, very good deals on refurbs and great reputation.

Thank you. I will check out their website.

I've use both Windows and Apple operating systems on desk tops and laptops. My favorite was my Apple laptop. When the track pad for the laptop died, I decided to replace it with an iPad.
That's what I started building my WA site with. However, some things don't work well on the iPad, like right clicking and highlight and cut/paste.

Wanting to keep costs down, I decided to try a Chromebook. I purchased a Samsung Chromebook Pro 2-in-1 12.3" Touch-Screen. It has Intel Core m3 - 4GB Memory - 64GB eMMC Flash Memory. For now, it's perfect. It's more than the $300, but not much. When my site gets big, and I'm doing lots more with it, maybe something more sophisticated will be necessary. As a newbie, this is perfect for now.

Though I love using my iPad when I am on the go, far more than my iPhone, for going on the internet, I too find it a little bit of a hassle when having to highlight, cut n paste, and do certain creative functions.

Do you really like the Samsung Chromebook? I just had seen one advertised on sale for $279.99, but I have never used a Samsung computer. You are the first person I have heard of that has a Samsung Chromebook.

The school I teach at issues a Chromebook to each student during the school year...many schools do. Many of them are made by Samsung. They endure almost unimaginable abuse, the Chromebooks :-), and keep on working. Some reviewers complain about the keyboard on the model I have, but for the price point, it's a very nice little laptop. I like that I don't have to invest in an operating system, and viruses aren't something to worry about either. I would encourage anyone looking to take one for a test drive. I bought mine from Best Buy (I'm NOT an affiliate for them) and see what you think. Their return policy is very generous if you decide it's not for you.

Thank you very much for that information. Seeing how this new computer will be secondary to my Sony Vaio, I am really starting to consider a Chromebook. And I know that Samsung does make quality products, but I needed to hear/read a personal review from someone who has used one.

Screen capture. Crop. Import. Not as clean as MS snippet tool, but it works.

You are very welcome. A couple of other features I enjoy are "voice typing" and the ease of "add-ons." Voice typing is a standard feature on my model...maybe on all Samsung Chromebooks. The add-ons are easy and many are free. I now have a great thesaurus app that makes my copy more interesting. I'll add more as they become necessary.

Happy shopping!

Awesome!

I'm in the exact same position and have been doing some research. Love my iPhone and wanted to switch to a Mac but just too darn expensive. I found a new Surface Pro for under $400 which I think is what I will buy...Best Buy sells them. It's windows which I'm use to. Check it out....
Debbie

I too like my iPhone and love my iPad but still haven't bought an Apple computer yet. When I did use an Apple computer it was at work.

But since I am using money from a recent commission and do not want to spend much more, I think a new Apple would be like my Sony Vaio, closer to $1,000.

I will check out the Surface Pro. You said that Best Buy sells them? They just built a new Best Buy at a nearby mall. Now I have a good reason to check out the new store. Thanks.

For the price point and you are asking for a new PC/Apple, I'd recommend checking out a Chromebook if you don't need to run some stand alone apps in windows/macOS.

You might be able to find a windows PC within that price range but I think the hardware will be outdated and will not be running smoothly in the long run. The Chrome OS is less hunger in power compared to Windows.

Hugh

I am starting to think about looking into a Chromebook, especially since this will be a secondary computer. Jut seen a new Samsung Chromebook for $279.00, but never tried a Samsung computer and don't know of anyone who has one.

Robert, I will get a Dell even if it will cost you a little bit more. There are good laptops between 350-500, but what I always liked about Dell is their Tech Support. I had bad experiences with HP but again there are choices.

I have never tried Dell, yet I see many people using them. I have heard good and bad about them, but if their tech support is really helpful, that could be a big plus. Thanks for your comment.

I bought myself an iMac a year ago. I was on windows before but have never looked back. It’s faster, the upgrades are free so you always have latest software and all my devices work seamlessly together saving me loads of time.

The only drawback is sometimes people with older versions of excel or word can’t access my attachments. But they can be easily converted to pdf before sending.

I will say that when I was in the video game industry and I was designing game levels, I really preferred using the iMac instead of my Windows PC.

Though it was a little quicker and smoother, it would get really warm when running for hours at a time. I remember some of the first iMacs would get hot enough to heat a small room.

And that's no joke. I actually did that once.

Haven’t had that experience so far. Best of luck with whatever you choose to purchase.

Don't go to Apple, their computers are expensive. I hear HP laptops are cheap and reliable though. Chrome books are also good.

I did like HP way back when I used one. And I see that Walmart is selling a new HP Chromebook for $179.99. Still much for me to consider. Thanks for your input.

Np.

I actually just got an email notification from eBay for a macbook air under $300. It's refurbished though but thought you might be interested.

WA isn't letting me put down the URL but I'm sure if you looked it up on eBay you'll be able to find it :)

I'll check it out. Thanks!

Hi Boomerg,

as for me i am using a desk top with , this is LG and it is really a good tool for me, no complaints and everything is clear.

Wow! I totally forgot that LG makes computers. I know I like their TVs. Thank you. I am going to check out what they have as far as computers.

Hi Boomerg,

New Apple for $300 USD? I doubt it unless you get lucky. If I am not Mistaken the cost of my MacBook Air was around $1200 CAD.

And I NEVER heard of an Apple to be priced at $300 in the last few years. I may be wrong though, don't take my word for it.

I thought you were successful with your websites: how come only $300 USD to invest in a laptop? (I apologize if this sounded too personal).

In any case, happy Apple shopping!

Yeah, I figured that a new Apple would be more than $300, but you never know. lol This new computer will not be my primary computer, my Sony Viao laptop will continue to occupy that role.

The reason I would like it to be $300 or under is because I just got an unexpected $305 commission from one of my affiliate programs and I am going to use that money to pay for it.

Plus I know there are a lot of good Windows OS computers that you can get brand new for under $300. Unfortunately my Sony Vaio does not sell for that low price, if it did I would buy another.

Ah, makes sense. Gotta love them unexpected commissions :)

I see a lot of great comments here, so hopefully you'll find a great option for you!

Yes, I am getting some good feedback. May try a new brand and/or perhaps a Chromebook.
