Procrastination is a Time Killer - My Bootcamp Website Agony

Last Update: June 08, 2020

Those of you just starting a Bootcamp websites that promotes Wealthy Affiliate, pay attention to what, where and how you write your content. Those of you with established Bootcamp websites can probably relate to what I just finished going through.

HOW BAD CAN IT BE?

When I first created my Bootcamp website, much of what is now the new normal within WA was different. Both the membership prices had changed and the benefits as well as commissions of the WA Affiliate Program.

Starter Members used to get 2 Free WordPress websites instead of 1. Premium Members used to get up to 25 on domains they owned and up to 25 free Site Rubix sub domains. Now we get a total of 10 in any combination of paid and free sub domains.

Then a little more than a month ago Kyle announced that the Premium Yearly price was going up from $359 per year to $495. For those of us already paying for yearly premium, we are locked in to whatever we pay now. So there were many changes.

All of this may have come as a surprise to many of you, but Kyle gave me (and others) a "heads-up" via a Private Message a couple of months before it went live. All of these changes were coming due just as the global pandemic was ramping up.

My day job as a Medical Transport Driver became really busy during February & March taking sick people to doctors and hospitals. In the back of my mind I knew I had to update my Bootcamp website but time was short and I thought the task wouldn't be so bad.

REALITY CHECK!!!

The Covid-19 pandemic was really bad where I live and work. Not only did I transport sick people to New Jersey hospitals (NJ is still the 2nd highest state with confirmed cases), but I also live in the epicenter of Covid-19 for the entire state.

I get up for work at 5:30 am, start work by 7:30 am, work until 6:30 pm, finish dinner by 7:30 pm, disinfect and showered by 8:30 pm and MAYBE I would have an hour or two before I am asleep. It was like this 5 days a week so there was little time for my website.

Fortunately come April Covid cases were on the decline in this area of the country and I had more time, plus I was forced to act when Kyle announced the special Yearly Premium Membership Limited Sale in mid-April. I first created content for that sale.

Then on May 1, 2020, when the sale went live I published my blog on my website and planned to finally start the update of my Bootcamp website on Sunday May 3rd. I felt that I could bang this all out within a week, 10 days at maximum. -------- WRONG!!!

I had a rude wake up call. Have you ever heard the quote, You never realize how much you have until it comes time to move? I didn't realize how much content I had created within six and a half years. This update was going to take me weeks!

MORE THAN I THOUGHT

A couple of years ago when WA increased their Premium monthly price from $47 to $49, updating my website for this was easy. All I had to do was scan through all of my content and look for $47 then change to $49. Numbers are easier to spot in content.

However this recent update I had to...

  • Seek out all content that said $359 and change it to $495
  • Remove any images that showed the old pricing plan and replace the image
  • Replace the HTML code for every time I used the side-by-side membership banner
  • Replace any image that showed the WA Commission payouts
  • Edit any content that said Starter Members get 2 free websites and change to 1
  • Edit any content that said Premium Members got 50 websites and change to 10
  • Seeing how I had to pretty much read all of my content, I fixed many grammar issues
  • I also shortened the paragraphs from my old posts written before I started doing UX

I did all of this for six and a half years of content. It took me a month to do. This is also on top of publishing content. Then once I had updated a page or post I would take the URL, go to Google Search Console (GSC), and do a URL Inspection to get it quickly re-indexed.

Learn How To Use GSC To Index Your Content Within Minutes

If you are reading this and you do not yet know how to get your website content indexed into Google within hours instead of days, read my training tutorial at the link above. NOTE: You must first have your website registered with GSC.

THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS...

Do not procrastinate when you have a major update to do for your website. Matter of fact do not procrastinate when it comes to any kind of content publishing and updates that will certainly take you hours to do. Waiting too long is a BIG waste of time.

Hello Robert-Boomer,

I'm glad to hear that you've got on top of things with updating your website, but I'm sure that you're not the only person in the world who has made a similar mistake, given the virus outbreak.

Being pretty new to WA, I'm surprised to hear that a veteran like you has a normal job as a driver - I assumed that you would have being able to earn a living purely through referral payments.

Are you usually too busy working in your day job to be able to spend as much time as you would ideally like doing online work, as I know it can take a lot of effort to completely get it right?

All The Best - SIMON

I do make money from a few different affiliate programs, not just WA and I was doing SEO content writing for a few websites which was actually what I made the most money from.

But about 4 years ago the SEO content writing came to an end which was about half of my income and I was asked at that time to help do some medical work. I figured, why not?

I got certified and planned to do it for about a year, but then I fell in love with helping people with sometimes life threatening conditions. It humbled me and gave me more compassion for human lives.

I never expected it to turn out the way it has, but I have met some interesting people in doing so and have made money off of them by directing them to a couple of my affiliate programs.

Though I didn't have time to devote to my Bootcamp website during Feb & Mar, I was still earning from my other affiliate programs, three of which that do not require websites.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify that for me, it seems like you truly are one of the good guys - the world would probably be a far better place if there were more philanthropists like you around.

Hi, Robert.
Great post again.
Paul Mindra here from Southern Ontario, Canada.

Thank you for your efforts on the 'front line.'
I am grateful as many others.

'Google' has always been kind to me in my journey because I am kind to 'Google' also in return.

The recent changes at Wealthy Affiliate have had a huge impact on my website started in 2018.

I am not procrastinating, but there are so many changes to make. It will now become a completely new presentation.

How are you keeping?

I trust that you are well.

I am having some challenges with making the changes.

Do me a favour...What are the new changes here at WA with the pricing and set-up?

In addition, does it affect those that are $299.00, $359.00,

I understand that the $19.00 first month still applies. This does not make too much sense to me other than a marketing technique.

$495.00 is the new normal.

Remain awesome, Robert.

Sent with love and respect.

Looking forward to a response back.

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Hello Paul.

I list above what the changes are... $359 yearly membership is now $495, Starter members get 1 free website, not 2 and Premium members can host a total of 10 websites and not 50.

If you are already a yearly Premium member, none of these changes have any affect on you directly. They only apply to new WA members. The only thing that impacts you is that you get a larger commission for the yearly membership.

Hello Rob,
Hope all is well in your part of the world, been a tough few months that’s for sure. Reading your daily timetable of working hours is harsh, they are long and if I’m not mistaken emotionally draining days, (who is taking care of you)?

It has been a very anxious and stressful time for all concerned, especially those on the front line, and reading your post I am hearing worn out, exhausted, opposed to procrastination, for sure it’s created a crippling additional load of work on your already exhaustive workload, but maybe your body and your “left brain” was rebelling.....I think you need to give yourself a breather, you are coping better than many and eventually things will ease off. Or maybe your 9-5 could be less hours or days per week?

🙏👍

I am getting a temporary slow down in working the day job and I do have a planned week off in August, but Saturday I rest and Sunday is my only day I do website work. It is a bit stressful but doable.

Good to hear you have some time off, I still feel you might be critiquing yourself a little harshly.... not procrastination but maybe exhaustion....👀

It is probably a little bit of both. :-)

Great information. I am so glad I have not increased that websites content as much as my other niche which is where I get my main $$ currently. My goal this year was to increase my bootcamp site to reflect changes, so it was ok and easy. Perhaps this is a good thing to know moving forward, so in another few years and much more content it will be to my benefit.
thanks,
bill

You are welcome Bill. You starting your Bootcamp website more recently than myself was definitely a blessing for you that you didn't have much change.
