Procrastination is a Time Killer - My Bootcamp Website Agony
Those of you just starting a Bootcamp websites that promotes Wealthy Affiliate, pay attention to what, where and how you write your content. Those of you with established Bootcamp websites can probably relate to what I just finished going through.
HOW BAD CAN IT BE?
When I first created my Bootcamp website, much of what is now the new normal within WA was different. Both the membership prices had changed and the benefits as well as commissions of the WA Affiliate Program.
Starter Members used to get 2 Free WordPress websites instead of 1. Premium Members used to get up to 25 on domains they owned and up to 25 free Site Rubix sub domains. Now we get a total of 10 in any combination of paid and free sub domains.
Then a little more than a month ago Kyle announced that the Premium Yearly price was going up from $359 per year to $495. For those of us already paying for yearly premium, we are locked in to whatever we pay now. So there were many changes.
All of this may have come as a surprise to many of you, but Kyle gave me (and others) a "heads-up" via a Private Message a couple of months before it went live. All of these changes were coming due just as the global pandemic was ramping up.
My day job as a Medical Transport Driver became really busy during February & March taking sick people to doctors and hospitals. In the back of my mind I knew I had to update my Bootcamp website but time was short and I thought the task wouldn't be so bad.
The Covid-19 pandemic was really bad where I live and work. Not only did I transport sick people to New Jersey hospitals (NJ is still the 2nd highest state with confirmed cases), but I also live in the epicenter of Covid-19 for the entire state.
I get up for work at 5:30 am, start work by 7:30 am, work until 6:30 pm, finish dinner by 7:30 pm, disinfect and showered by 8:30 pm and MAYBE I would have an hour or two before I am asleep. It was like this 5 days a week so there was little time for my website.
Fortunately come April Covid cases were on the decline in this area of the country and I had more time, plus I was forced to act when Kyle announced the special Yearly Premium Membership Limited Sale in mid-April. I first created content for that sale.
Then on May 1, 2020, when the sale went live I published my blog on my website and planned to finally start the update of my Bootcamp website on Sunday May 3rd. I felt that I could bang this all out within a week, 10 days at maximum. -------- WRONG!!!
I had a rude wake up call. Have you ever heard the quote, You never realize how much you have until it comes time to move? I didn't realize how much content I had created within six and a half years. This update was going to take me weeks!
MORE THAN I THOUGHT
A couple of years ago when WA increased their Premium monthly price from $47 to $49, updating my website for this was easy. All I had to do was scan through all of my content and look for $47 then change to $49. Numbers are easier to spot in content.
However this recent update I had to...
- Seek out all content that said $359 and change it to $495
- Remove any images that showed the old pricing plan and replace the image
- Replace the HTML code for every time I used the side-by-side membership banner
- Replace any image that showed the WA Commission payouts
- Edit any content that said Starter Members get 2 free websites and change to 1
- Edit any content that said Premium Members got 50 websites and change to 10
- Seeing how I had to pretty much read all of my content, I fixed many grammar issues
- I also shortened the paragraphs from my old posts written before I started doing UX
I did all of this for six and a half years of content. It took me a month to do. This is also on top of publishing content. Then once I had updated a page or post I would take the URL, go to Google Search Console (GSC), and do a URL Inspection to get it quickly re-indexed.
If you are reading this and you do not yet know how to get your website content indexed into Google within hours instead of days, read my training tutorial at the link above. NOTE: You must first have your website registered with GSC.
THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS...
Do not procrastinate when you have a major update to do for your website. Matter of fact do not procrastinate when it comes to any kind of content publishing and updates that will certainly take you hours to do. Waiting too long is a BIG waste of time.
