Jobs Lost Due to Technology - A WA Membership Can Help

Last Update: June 02, 2019

I was watching a video interview of 2020 Republican candidate for president Bill Weld about how we all must get ready for the coming jobs lost due to technology. It is expected that within the next 20 years about 25% of the job market will vanish because of technology.

DRONES & AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

Technological advances are fast moving forward. As the years go by the faster things once unheard of are becoming a reality. It is 2019. Can you think back 12 years ago and remember what life was like? One thing is for certain, you did not have an Apple or Droid smartphone.

The very first iPhone didn't hit the retail market until 2007 and now almost everyone in the world has some kind of smartphone. Did you know that these devices are not really a phone with added options? In fact they are a personal computer with the ability to make phone calls.

We already have drones flying in our skies from the personal types to military and law enforcement. We have airliners that can takeoff, fly and land by themselves. And Google along with several other companies have autonomous vehicles operating in our streets.

Amazon is developing small package delivery using drones and have also started testing an autonomous delivery robotic van. In the picture above is the DRU (Dominos Robotic Unit) an autonomous pizza delivery robot designed and road tested in New Zealand. See video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb0nxQyv7RU

With technology surging ahead, many jobs that require driving will soon be replaced by driver-less vehicles. Uber and Lyft have been testing autonomous cars in specifiic areas for at least a year now, Lyft just reached 50,000 driverless rides in Las Vegas since 2018.

BILL WELD "PEOPLE NEED NEW TRAINING"

Even though we are not yet at the state of these jobs being totally gone because of technology, the time is coming and it is coming fast. Like Bill Weld said in his interview with Bloomberg Market, Americans need to educate themselves in other jobs now.

People need new training and cannot wait for the inevitable to happen, then wonder what are they going to do to earn income. If they wait too long they will find themselves on Government Assistance. That is not a good option for both government or those people.

Bill says that we need to invest in education that will train people for new jobs and new ways of earning an income in a world that is becoming more technological. People need to get started on that right now and stop focusing on issues that are not productive for our future.

I agree with him because technology is not going to stop advancing and in many cases it is advancing quicker than people feel like adapting. I still know people that do not like using a computer or smartphone (same thing) or even email. By choice they are being left behind.

This reminds me of many people in manufacturing jobs and those in the auto industry working on the assembly lines. For generations those jobs were secured but now many of those jobs are performed by automated robotics. These companies can now operate with less workers.

HOW WA CAN HELP FUTURE GENERATIONS

The talk in Washington is bringing back manufacturing jobs, but bringing back companies that moved to other countries does not mean going back to the days of lots of human workers. The auto industry is definitely not going to replace their cost-efficient robots for humans.

Those days are gone for good and there will be other jobs once thought of as secured, like driving, will soon be gone for good too. You may not like it but that is the trend of the present and the future. The time is now to get educated in another way to earn an income.

Wealthy Affiliate can help people to learn that alternative way to earn income. The skills that can be learned from the WA training program are perfect for either fostering your entrepreneurial spirit in starting your own online business or even finding a job freelancing.

The income opportunities you can have access to from taking the Wealthy Affiliate Premium Training for only $49.00 per month, all are compliant with future ways of earning an income. By using the internet as your vehicle for making money you will be ready for the future.

We members here at WA are already taking part in what Bill Weld said is needed for the future when it comes to new jobs and new ways to earn income. Wealthy Affiliate makes it easy for anyone anywhere in the world to learn and build themselves an internet business.

The future is now here at Wealthy Affiliate and the cost for the education and EVERYTHING ELSE for only $49.00 per month, is unmatched by any other training program. Do you agree? Give me your answers, questions or comments below. Thank you.

10 years ago, a printer was replaced by a better printer, at approximately 3 years, 5 years later a printer was replaced by a better printer. in 1 year, 2 years ago it was replaced in a few months, and now, we even have 3D printers, what news will we have in 2 months?
The passage of time is multiplying exponentially as it is happening.
Thanks for your Great Post!

True. The rate at which something better is introduced into the market is very quick.

Technology keeps pushing forward.

There was a time when that technology was pushing forward up a hill of knowledge.

Now knowledge is no longer a hill but more of a level plane. Thus technology moves forward faster.

Very well said. This is a message that needs to be placed front and center of every news outlet.

Automation and AI are here to stay and those that survive are those with the training and information needed to effectively co-exist with machines and AI.

WA is a great start!

I agree 100%.

The future from 20 and even 10 years ago is now here and the AI and robotic changes are already in the early stages of use.

Learning how to earn an income online is what the work force that loses their jobs to automation need to start training for now.

And yes, WA is a great start.

Your post was on point and I can see where this is going. I agree they are pushing so many thing towards automation. Some automation is okay.

However, man is a trip. He won't stop until a lot of stuff is pushed towards automation or A.I.

Balance is what is going to be needed in the future.

Great post. Thanks

You are so right - Balance will be key!

AI would not exist without man however, man has existed without AI!

Yes balance is needed and also extreme caution when bringing new technology into the mainstream.

For instance, Waymo is Google's fully autonomous self-driving taxi service which is currently operational in Phoenix, AZ only.

The vehicle drives itself and it works just like Uber but without a human driving the car.

Even though it works well, Google is being cautious making Phoenix the only city to have the service for now.

Oh how true this post is! Just like the elevator guy that used to take riders to the 5th floor was replaced by buttons we can press ourselves.

We are in the digital age that we once saw on the big screen!

The tools are provided here for just a little under $2 a day. Or of course the best way valued at $359 a year boiling down to $1 a day

Can’t beat it

When I think back to when I was a kid and all of the jobs that have changed and become automated, it still amazes me. Now the way people buy and shop is quickly becoming mostly online and that is of great benefit to us the affiliate marketer.

Thanks for the post it is certainly a wake-up call.
The other point is that the skilled market is becoming greater hence obtaining jobs gets more competitive.

With Degree people coming out of China, India, Asia and the Middle East adding to the top end labour force it will really squeeze the market.
So a 20% drop with Technology and a 20% increase in applicants the young are going to find it difficult to get jobs.

I agree Peter. That is why I feel that those of us here getting this newer kind of education to allow us to build a business on the internet is the best solution for many people.

Most definitely!
We can see it happening already when we look around us. When Companies, Businesses etc. look to fine tune their expenses, usually it’s looking at staff costs, employing and paying wages is the most expensive output of resources and budgets.
There are some areas of growth though, one being Aged Care, unfortunately, we all get old. But even here staff are expected to work extremely hard with high ratio of more clients/residents to each staff member and basic wage paid of course!

The working environment is changing in many different sectors. As technology replaces workers these displaced workers need to adapt to the changes.

I feel that getting new training in ways to earn an income online or with the skills we learn here, is a good way to approach the future.

Hi Boomer, this is truly scary, isn't it? First, brick and mortar stores going down the tubes and next will be a ton of jobs replaced by technological advancement.

On the flip side, affiliate marketing may actually be one of the best ways to earn money because of technology and people buying products and services and searching for answers to problems online.

Great post,
Cal

Thanks Cal. Like I said to someone else, it is kind of scary especially if you work at one of those companies where technology can replace you.

Fortunately WA has the solution with their great education in online affiliate marketing which is predicted to be a 6.8 Billion Dollar per Year Industry in 2020.

We are already at 25% possibly, the amount of jobs out there are slim to known and are usually not salary based. Great article. Thank you.

Great article and very well written!! I think 20 years is wishful thinking. If you think about the yellow pages industry, once search engines started to become a reliable resource for information and a profit generater for business, the yellow pages industry was toast in a matter of 5 years. I totally agree with using the internet as a source of income and freedom!! The genie is out of the bottle, there no putting it back in!!

Thank you. Happy you liked my post. It may not take a full 20 years but I can see it taking that long for the technology to be fully perfected (if there is such a thing) and for it to be widely accepted.

One area of hesitancy is the autonomous driving car without a human backup driver. Not many people feel safe enough driving in them even though they are currently being tested in some U.S. cities.

Yes, it's happening very fast and at an alarming rate!

I work in Ethernet repair for business. Ethernet is your internet connection, your connection to the world. I experience automation everywhere. AT&T and other major carriers are good examples.

When you call customer service, you get a menu, not a person. If you don't know how to work around their automation you can get stuck because there may be no menu option for your specific question, but I figured it out, for the most part.

I understand automation, it streamlines, but it also destroys jobs. It's a double-edged sword.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
It is most definitely a double-edged sword. Automation is beneficial to the company using it but not always good for the workers it replaces.

Like I mentioned above. The auto industry is a perfect example. Back 20 years ago, car assembly lines were staffed with many human workers doing various jobs in putting a car together.

Now the auto industry uses robotics to assemble up to 80% of the vehicles we drive. Now those assembly lines are staffed by only 25% of a human crew then there was 20 years ago.

People in manufacturing jobs and other types that can be replaced by technology need to get trained in a new way to earn an income and WA has the solution to that problem.

I hope more Americans accept the truth of the rapid changes to the job market and change their job skills based on changes in technology. Your article shows that WA is a great place to make a new start as a business owner and it's a great place to learn new skills. But like you stated, people have to make the choice. All I can say is that your article just hit a grand slam ball outta the ball park. Great read!

Thank you Joy. Opportunities in the job market are changing fast, and not just in manufacturing or transportation. The retail market is going through big changes as well with thousands of chain stores downsizing or going completely out of business. I wrote a blog about this a couple of weeks ago. But thankfully that which we are learning here at WA can save us or anyone else, from being trapped with no way to earn an income. The opportunities offered through the WA training is in step with the changes on the horizon for the job market.

Robert,

Thank you for another great article and reminder to our WA community of just how much we as members of the "knowledge industry" can do to educate, lift up, empower and free millions from under the oppressive. mind dulling universe of corporate employment.

I have written quite a few posts here recently, not as eloquently as yours, however, driving home the same takeaways. Blessings!

P.S.: Jersey Shore or Longgg Island Shore or bust...

We certainly can help those people working in jobs that one day may not be available due to technology replacing the workforce.

And even though the Long Island Shore is 30 minutes closer to me, the drive down to the Jersey Shore is a ride I will always take.

Very astute observations.

I'm reminded of the first round of changes when IBM computer technology started transforming the railroad industry. The building my dad worked in used to house over fifty employees, most of them clerks. When I left that same building ten years later there were two human jobs per shift remaining and those were being consolidated and relocated to a central office hundreds of miles away.

Train crews experienced the same reductions due to technology. They went from four person crews to two and some are one person crews with fully automated trains looming on the horizon.

My father told me when I was 18 years old to find something to do besides working for the railroad because there wouldn't be that many jobs left in 20 years and the one that were left, you wouldn't want.

Turns out he was dead on with his prediction.

And the beat goes on.

Thanks for sharing that memory KC. I remember as a kid being into model railroading. My dad got me started with the Lionel 027 gauge, thankfully not HO scale. I liked the bigger size.

But back then I remember freight trains used to have a caboose. I had a couple in my Lionel collection that were lighted, another reason why I liked the larger scale. But now in reality the majority of freight trains do not have them.

Eliminating the caboose I bet reduced that train crew down to two crew members. Now there are many Light Rail passenger trains in urban areas that just have one operator, and the monorail at the airport is fully unmanned.

Well said and all so true. I still do not have a cell phone {please don't go in a state of shock} We are too far away from the cell phone towers} I will say the nearest Walmart has cut maned checkout counters, to less than half. Most check stands are self check out. Even in some large retail stores there more self-check-out counters and employee counter check out. WA is the place to be. I have been trying to tap into this audience for WA referrals.

I am not in shock because I know others like yourself. Some people can do without them but they are good to have in case of an emergency. And it doesn't need to be a smartphone. It could be just a regular cell flip phone.

As for self-checkout counters, I enjoy those quite a lot because I can scan and bag my items quicker and better than most cashiers. Plus there is less of a chance that there will be line to wait on. So some changes are welcomed.
