Hello from CES 2018 Las Vegas - Thank You WA

Last Update: January 10, 2018

There are two ways to get to Las Vegas thanks to Wealthy Affiliate. The main way is how most of us would love to travel there, on an paid for trip as a Super Affiliate. The other way is to pay for the trip yourself from the money you have earned as an affiliate of WA and/or other affiliate programs. This is how and why I am now in Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show 2018.

The one thing I have learned from my many trips to LV is to never stay at a casino hotel in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip if you want to save money. So I am staying at the South Point Casino Hotel on the South Las Vegas Strip, see above image. I am saving a ton of money and it is only an 8 minute drive away from the MGM Grand.

A LOT HAS CHANGED IN 10 YEARS

It has been a little more than 10 since I have attended a CES. I used to go every year from 1989 to 2006 while in the video game industry. If you love any kind of consumer electronics and tech devices, (smartphones, tablets, drones, smart-cars, cameras, computers, VR, high-tech TVs, robotics,...) then CES is the place to be.

I arrived yesterday, Tuesday, January 9th, the first day of the show. It was raining for a good part of the day but today, Wednesday, it was much better. Google has a BIG presence here at the show and have even re-skinned the Las Vegas Monorail with their logo and named it the Google Assistant.

The last time I came to CES in 2006, the very first iPhone was still a year away from release. The technology I am seeing at this show is blowing me away. I briefly watched a presentation by Kodak and how they will be creating their own cryptocurrency for photographers to get paid for licensing their photos. - What a waste in my opinion.

The technology in smart appliances, smart cars, virtual reality, robotics, and The Wall 146-inch Modular MicroLED TV by Samsung were the highlights of my first two days. Tomorrow I will be checking out new drone technology and the new venture by Volocopter and Intel. To get a glimpse of some of the exciting tech, watch the video below.

Awesome video, Robert. I'm glad to hear that there are better options in visiting LV than just the strip. You be safe, have fun, and bring back tech info for us here,
Ken

Thanks Ken. I just returned to freezing NJ from warmer LV. When it comes to seeing the sights and even driving around LV, I always avoid the main part of the strip as much as possible. The trick is to know many of the back roads, which I have learned over the years. :)

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the video... interesting and I also watched on the news. Toilet was very cool... lol. A lot has changed in computer technology and it's very exciting.

Have lots of fun in Vegas!!

You are welcome Monica. Technology is everywhere and will be more integrated into our lives in the near future than it already is. Some of it I find to be a bit stupid, like the toilet, but others I see as quite useful.

Hey Robert,

Saw a piece about this on the news today and thought about you. :-)

The report talked about the emphasis on voice-activated technology this year. Did you see the toilet?? haha

The reporter said that a certain element feel that the voice-activated technology often runs over into being an expensive toy because some of the gadgets are solving a problem that did not exist in the first place. Food for thought, for sure.

Enjoy!
Stella :-)

Thanks Stella. Though I did hear about the voice activated toilet, I did not get a chance to see it. That was at the bottom of my to do list. I think when we get to a point that we need to talk to our toilet, we have crossed the line of stupidity. haha

But there were so many other really cool products I wanted to see, like the suitcase that would follow you anywhere, the Sony Aibo robot dog...that was so cute, the Ujet foldable personal electric scooter, and many more products.

It is no longer there. It was moved to the Clark County Museum.

I didn't realize they moved it. I saw it in November.

They moved it, with great care and respect, to the museum in December.

Hi there Boomer
good for you and thanks for the updates
It sure is a nice way to start 2018.
Like you mentioned in the top of your post, it's great to have an online passive income and by having that it allows one to travel and do as they like.
Cheers PB

The opportunities given to all of us through the training and affiliate programs we learn and have access to through Wealthy Affiliate, can take us to Las Vegas and anywhere in the world.

Though it would be nice to go to Vegas with WA paying the bill, if we all just save a little bit each month from our affiliate earnings, eventually we can go on a nice vacation.

That sounds so cool, Robert! I'm a huge fan of techie gadgets! I love them! It would be so cool to see techie stuff before it hits the market! Enjoy! Alanna

It is beyond cool Alanna. I have seen so much that I really wish I could share it all with all people who are into technology that are not here.

The following video by CNET is one of many doing Best of CES 2018 videos. Check this out.

That video is awesome! I can't even tell you my favorite because I thought all of the products were so cool! I would love to get lost in there! I loved the Sony puppy and the special glove that can help people with hand injuries use their hands again. I was wondering.......do you think the Sony puppy can be taught to fetch? :D
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Like I have said elsewhere in these comments, CES is like Technology Heaven. And you do not need to be a tech geek to enjoy yourself at this convention, there are really cool products that everyone can identify with.

I do not know if the Sony Aibo, robot dog, can actually fetch at this time. But the Aibo is super responsive to both word commands and when you touch it. It has a camera in its nose so it can recognize people and objects.

If you sit down next to it its head will move from a looking up at you position to a lower point of view when you are next to it. It acts just like a real loving puppy. For less than $2,000.00 it will be big favorite to people of all ages who do not have a real puppy for whatever reason.

I envy you. I love trade shows. Have been to many in Las Vegas working in the trade show industry. As I am sure you know, hotel prices, even in the middle of the strip change all the time, but since demand is high during CES, you are probable smart to stay further away from the heart of the show sites.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Yes. Every year back when I was in the video game industry, the companies I worked for would always pay for all expenses when attending CES.

Reservations to casino hotels on the strip like the MGM Grand, Excalibur, and others were made months in advance. Even though I am staying at the southern end of the strip, I still had to make my reservations a few months ago.

Frankly I love it down here. Though it is still as lively as the hotels in the heart of the strip during the day, it is far more quiet at night when I want to relax.

There is so much to see and do in Vegas, and gambling does not have to be a part of it.
Reply

I'm no gambler. I spent a week there and gambled a whole $ ... lol
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Me too. But with all of the other great and fun things to do, gambling was the furthest thing from my mind...though it is very hard to ignore it when there are slot machines almost everywhere you go.

There are several transportation cars, copters, drones and scooters that are getting close to George Jetson. Check out the Ujet folding scooter being released later this year.

Then going out with friends to the local restaurants, micro breweries, along with a Cirque du Soleil show at night, makes this trip a real enjoyable experience.

Way to go Robert. Appears to be a surer way to get to Sin City than the convoluted WA route!
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
Well it is a viable way. If you cannot get there on WA's dime, get there on your own. If you get WA commissions or commissions from other affiliate sources, save some each month and then pay for your trip.
