Facebook and Instagram Offline - Even the Mighty Fall

Last Update: March 13, 2019

Have you noticed today, Wednesday March 13, 2019, that you cannot login to your Facebook or Instagram account? This has been happening to a lot of members, not all, since 9:00 AM PT. Even if you are lucky enough to be able to login you will be hit with an error message similar to what was recently tweeted below.

This is not the first time Facebook has gone down. Back in November Facebook ran a test and it brought down the social media giant for 40 minutes. It has now been 3 hours and I still cannot login. I wonder what could the problem be? Hacked? Running another test? Sharing too many WA blog posts? lol

Is Facebook and Instagram working for you? Have you checked it today?

All over the world in fact and not just Facebook but Instagram as well (also owned and operated by Facebook). Facebook is under criminal investigations. They are running a "data dump" in an effort to cover their tracks. More is coming out but there seems to be a connection between DARP (CIA spying on US citizens) and Facebook. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/13/technology/facebook-data-deals-investigation.html

I did not like what I saw days back when I logged into my facebook account. That made me to deactivate the account because I believe what I saw was invasion of privacy without consent.

Yes, all of the Facebook family was/is affected (Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger). In regards to your NYTimes post, it doesn't surprise me.

Many of my friends and family have always wondered why I never use the app of social media networks and instead only access them through the Internet. This is why.

As someone who used to develop apps for mobile devices, I know how vulnerable private information is when using an app and that is why I will not use a social media app.

For the apps I do use I do not provide any personal info. Those that require it, I just do not use. It's as simple as that. I do realize that not everything can be protected but I can do my part.

Like when Facebook started asking its members to provide their phone numbers to better help secure their FB accounts and help if passwords are forgotten. That's a bunch of crap! They will never have my phone number!

I must admit it just goes to show that having your own blog and email list is paramount... Facebook groups and pages are fine but you are never in full control.

I see so many people actually running their small business from their Facebook page. I am always saying that you need a website that is yours.

Good job we are all building are businesses on solid foundations.

It is always best to have your own blog, but our blogs can and have gone offline too. Thankfully when that happens, the WA tech support is able to get them working again within a short period of time.

Totally Rob, nothing is 100% but at least its up to WA to get it back if FB goes it goes and they will not care a jot about little old us ...LOL

Yeah, it has been an issue all day on my end, and everyone who I have chatted with. It is not as isolated as they are trying to indicate, and it is unlikely related to any "roll out" as there is downtime across all Facebook owned entities (Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp).

I think there is going to be some pretty big news in the coming days about what is happening here, I don't want to speculate but I think this is much more significant than they are probably making it out to be.

Yup, one of the largest online outages ever! I'm impressed, whatsapp still doesn't work properly, Instagram is ok but not so stable...we'll see how long it takes for them to fix it :L

I agree. I just looked at the FB outage map at 3:30 am and the Americas have improved but now Europe, Australia, and Asia are getting worse. You can check out the updated map at the link below.

And please answer my PM to you. I cannot write my Jaaxy review until I get your answer.

I'm in Thailand and last night, oh say about 9pm my time (about 18 hours ago as I write this) I couldn't post comments at all on anything, or share any posts on facebook.

At first I thought I'd received a ban or something (censored)

Seems my first guess was wrong with what I'm reading today.

Hi Boomer,
FB has never been my favorite media device. I don't use either Instagram or FB so I can't keep a running touch on how they are doing.

Even in today's "anything goes" society, FB can last only so long with their crooked ways. Maybe a Phoenix will rise from the ashes.

If my family and friends were not all on FB I would spend all of my social media marketing on Twitter and Pinterest.

That is great advice, I tend to favor those two also. Thanks for your remarks.

If you have been reading my comment replies below you have seen me say that I was looking at a Facebook outage map of the world.

If would like to see the map yourself, click the below link then zoom in on the map to see more of the areas that are having problems. Zooming in helps you to see a more detailed view of problematic areas.

Glad that it's a fault their end. I tried doing an FB live and IGLive and both wouldn't connect on either laptop or phone.

Thought something strange was going on but never thought it would be a fault with them somehow.
It's unusual for that to happen to them as big as they are.

Guess it shows that they're not immune to problems and that really the whole net is vulnerable...what if it all went down?

A lot of peoples online lives and careers would disappear in an instant !
Sobering thought

You would be surprised at how often problems happen with them and even Google. But most times they are fixed within minutes not hours. This is the worst I have seen s far.

Refreshed a Fb tab I had open this morning (Events > Birthdays). See attached img for msg I got. Refreshed it again just now and it loaded fine.

I can access my home page, but only the "Intro" and "Create a post" sections show up - no posts, friends or photos.

So, I'm not the only one experiencing issues. I posted something to a group this afternoon and it didn't show up in the group. I have been trying to upload a photo to a page off and on for over an hour and it just tells me that the photo has not been uploaded. I successfully posted to another page but it took three tries. I had a notification that there was a new message but it took a long time to open and there wasn't anything there. :(

Yes. Facebook said on Twitter that Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger are experiencing "Increased Error Rates" and service is either totally out, with sporadic problems, or totally normal, depending on where in the world you live.

Yes, social media should never be used as the only way to market your website. But fortunately only Facebook and Instagram (which is owned by Facebook) has problems. All other social media platforms are fine.

Hi, I just saw @wealthysites post. She said that when she logged on earlier today, all their phone contacts and messages with each person was displayed online. She was NOT happy with the invasion of privacy.

So, maybe that is why it had to be shut down for a bit.

That wouldn't surprise me. Even though Facebook posted an update on Twitter that they are experiencing "Increased Error Rates" I would not be shocked if the two problems are related.

This is a good day for Twitter.

Here in Colorado, we are in midst of huge snow event. A worse than blizzard type of thing. The type of day that people really want to be able to share and read about......

So, a lot of us have "rediscovered" Twitter today.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
I have always liked Twitter better but most of my friends and family are on Facebook.

Oh and PLEASE...KEEP that snow in CO! It has been warm enough here in the NJ/NY area that all of our snow has melted away. Looking forward to Spring.

LOL We had 60 degrees yesterday and this morning it was warm enough that it was raining.

It seems to be noteworthy in that it is almost more of a "wind" event - with category 1 hurricane winds. It's supposed to be moving east - your general direction. lol . So, I guess you have to hope that it dies out somewhere in between the two of us.

If we hadn't know about it coming yesterday, I'd figure out a way to blame it on Facebook. That would make it an even more interesting story.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Google stops functioning?
OMG

It is impressive and yes, terrifying how dependent we have become on all the technologies around us, particularly cell phones and social networks, to such an extent that the paralysis of these external sources comes to paralyze our lives. Almost with a sharp infarction of technology

Reply
boomergp08 Premium
The scary thing is that this happens more times than you know but most times it is only down for minutes not hours. Even WA has gone down, but not for long.

And yes, Google has gone offline several times before. But being that they have server farms all over the world, service only has/had minor sporadic issues.

There will come a time when we will lose all of this connectivity because there are many things both man made and natural that could take most of it away.

Or go to Twitter or Pinterest or yes, go to sleep early. :)
