An Alternative Wealthy Affiliate Success Story

Last Update: January 12, 2018

Usually, the Wealthy Affiliate success stories are about building great websites and blogs. It is expected; we learn how to build a website.

As you can understand from the title and the first line, something else has worked for me. Now, I want to mention that I write this article to show you additional opportunities and not to prevent you from building your website and focus on it. You must apply everything you learn in training to develop your skills. If you decide to use them differently as I did, it is your choice.

I am using the skills I have learned here to help other people with their businesses. Yes, I work as a freelancer. However, I am not talking about some Fiverr gigs but for real long-term clients. My website (1/3 of my earnings) and my work as a freelancer (2/3) are the two sources of income that I am going to keep them growing in 2018. On the first part of the article, I am sharing what it is working for me.

The second part of the article is about the mindset skills I have developed the last 14 months that have a big impact on my results. In my opinion, when you build an online business 70% of your success depends on the mindset and 30% on skills.

Anyway, I am not earning a six-figure income or something like that. I had only three good months (the last three months) and I am sharing this article for those who face the same problems as I did. January has started well and it seems that I will earn more than enough to cover all my expenses. So, a full-time income online which is my biggest goal is really close.

If that's enough to draw your attention, let's start.

Finally, My Website Gets Traffic

I am happy with my progress and work but I had some obstacles to overcome in the beginning. You may have understood that I am not a native English speaker and that was a problem for me. While I was building my site, I was on the "I try this" mode for many months because of doubts about the quality of my work.

When I increased my confidence, I started doing good work that gave me my first results. I followed the training, updated my site regularly, and finally I am earning money. Only one tip here:

When I did a good job with my keyword research, I got some great results. The posts that give me the 90% of my traffic are the ones that I have written after spending hours finding a really low competition keyword. After that, I follow the training without doing anything different.

Also, while WA is my top recommendation, most of my earnings are from other affiliate programs as the ranked keywords are relevant to them. I have not any problem to write about topics that cannot be a funnel for my main product and it is working well.

Freelancing

I decided to "try" freelancing because I was not earning enough money yet. I had created a few Fiverr gigs and still have some active ones but I wanted something bigger. So, I visited some other freelance platforms and I typed on their search bars some of the skills I have learned the last year.

Then, I saw that people pay a lot of money for tasks I can easily do. In a few minutes, the "I will try it" mode became "I will do it". I started sending applications for jobs that I was completely confident I can do. Soon, I got my first job and a long-term client that I enjoy working with his team. From that day, I had many other offers for jobs but most of them were about one-two projects.

You probably have read again articles on Wealthy Affiliate about freelancing. Yes, it is not something new. However, when I was reading similar articles I did not give them too much attention, I thought that freelancing was for experts.

The truth is that you can earn extra money by applying anything you have learned here. If you are looking at the bigger picture and considering freelancing as a business model, I can think some benefits also:

  • You can earn money faster than most types of businesses
  • It is scalable (you can raise your price, find more clients, start an agency)
  • You can start for free
  • You can develop your skills while you work

Some types of services you can do by using the skills you learn on Wealthy Affiliate:

  • Writing (SEO writer, content writer)
  • Seo consultant
  • Keyword research
  • On page SEO
  • WordPress services
  • Social media marketing services
  • and more

Develop Your Mindset For Success

By the time you join Wealthy Affiliate and start building your business, I can promise you that you will start growing. Unless you have built a profitable business before, you have a lot to learn.

The good news is that Wealthy Affiliate can help you grow. At least I have grown through that process.

It is not only the technical part that a beginner misses. The right mindset can make a huge difference. When I joined here, I had doubts, low confidence about my marketing skills, was on the "try things" mode, too many distractions and more. When I developed my mindset skills and combined them with the technical skills, the results came naturally.

What mindset skills can you develop? Here are some examples:

  • Add value to every action you take
  • Set high goals
  • Focus, remove all the distractions when you work
  • A constant taking action attitude
  • And the most important: Do not try things, make things happen

Bottom Line

That is my story until today, guys. Hopefully, I will have more to share soon. One of my new goals is to start blogging here at least once a week and engaging daily. So, this post is an introduction to the next posts and a way to say thank you to all the active members of this great community.

Thanks for reading, if you have anything to add, you can leave your comments below.

Excellent advice! We learn so many skills here, using them like you have to help others with their businesses is a great way to earn more income....plus, it's always good to have more than one income stream, or way to bring money in anyways....just in case things go wrong with one, you have other income still coming in.

Btw, congrats on your successes! You're definitely right, mindset and confidence are a big part of it...instead of I'll try, I'll do! Keep up the awesome work!

Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Thank you, Sherry.

Yes, the mindset is a big part and I try to emphasize it in this post. Simple things like improving your productivity or your focus can make a big difference.

Thanks for a new insight into my skills learnt at WA. Maybe I need to look into other monetising processes too. Freelancing is certainly an option.

I really enjoyed your blog. It's as if your speaking directly to me.
I've never tried online freelancing before, always thought that I may not be able to satisfy my clients.
But I need some extra bucks, so this is something I'm definitely considering. Where else do you offer your services asides from Fiverr?

I wish you well in your journey to succeed. Your English is great by the way. I couldn't tell it wasn't your native English. :)

Thank you, Sara. I have created some Fiverr gigs but I prefer sites like Upwork and Freelancer.

You can apply for jobs of your choice on these sites. If they do not like your work, give their money back. I have made mistakes in the beginning, nothing bad happened.

Nice story, I'm so pleased for you!

I laughed at your graphic with the kids. That could easily have been my kids. I recall the first time they got a sale on a dropship store they created all by themselves. There were hoots and squeals of joy because some nice lady had bought their homewares! And yes, fist pumping. It was hilarious.

It's their 21st Century equivalent of the kid lemonade stand.

I'm so happy to see them learn new skills with the process. And I know, as you've already found out with your successes, that they will be able to transfer the skills they've learnt looking after their online customers into a variety of jobs.

Thanks Ivy, I can see a great future for your kids. Many people try for years just to make their first sale. All the best for you and your family.

Thanks! I can only hope the best for them.

As for the random lady who made their very first purchase, BLESS HER! She will never know how important she was in helping them take that first step, bolstering the self-confidence of three anonymous girls on the other side of the world. :)

Oh dude, I love that pic. I keep looking at it and smiling because that absolutely was them viewing their first sale! Chortling over here. :)

It sounds an interesting story. I would like to read a post about it.

You would? There you go. It wasn’t on my list of things, but may be now. I hesitate to post here unless it’s absolutely related to the training. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think that is a good idea. It is relevant to the online marketing even if they have worked differently than most of us on Wealthy Affiliate.

Three girls who took action and made their first sale!

Most people do not take action at all. Yes, it adds value for sure.

Right, ok. Theirs was a dropship game without any blog copy. They were great at choosing popular products, and did better at picking those than the tools they had. I wouldn't have thought kid excitement would have been as good a predictor of potential as it was.

They got a facebook ad budget to play with, and that was their only outreach. I think market segmentation and working out how to use facebook ads was their toughest challenge! That might be the only part of their experience relevant to the training here. It's easy to bleed money on FB ads.

That was on Shopify. We haven't trialled woocommerce yet. I also have a test case in setup mode on Amazon, where the data available for study is pretty detailed. That will come in very handy when using analytics to describe marketplace behaviours for my project.

That's good. It is not easy to make Fb ads to convert for a new store. I have read many threads on forums from disappointed Shopify marketers.
