Don't Miss Opportunities to Reuse Your Content
Like most people I receive a lot of rubbishy emails, most of which get deleted but occasionally something catches my eye and I decide to investigate further. Well when I received an email this week about automatic software for creating infographics from content you've already written - I had to investigate further.
It turned out to be a waste of time because the tool isn't ready as implied in the email - it's just in the early stages of development and seeing what has been produced so far - I won't be looking again!
However it did act as a reminder that it's not always necessary to create content from scratch. Sometimes you have content that can be worked in a different way.
Reusing your content
A single article - can be turned into:
- A different type of article
- An infographic
- A pod cast
- A video
- Pinterest pins
- Presentation
- Twitter tweets
Well no guessing what I decided to do on this occasion. I took an article that I published in Street Articles - Finding Ideas For Article Writing When You Are Out And About - Advice For Newbies and turned it into an infographic. This is the result.
You can see the full-sized infographic here
If you've had a quick glance at Street Articles you'll see how easily I have created similar content in a different form. I intend to write a new article which will be posted long with the infographic to a new site I'm working on.
Infographics might not be for you, but there's plenty of scope for turning your content into different media. You don't always have to re-invent the wheel.

Been enjoying all your info graphics. Today, thinking I saw a misspelling, looked up the word hoardings. I know them as billboards. I love learning at the WA.
Thank you, Beverley.
Oh there could well be a misspelling - it's easy to let them through - but on this occasion its just my British English as opposed to American English. I often switch but not on this occasion. Glad you're enjoying them.
FYI - The British word 'hoardings' are billboards. Also hoarding is an animal behavior of accumulating food during scarcity or a human mental illness of items accumulated for no apparent reason.
Am a habitual dictionary user. Especially of words used I don't know the meaning of and those words used in an unfamiliar context.
Guess that is what happens to teachers who are perpetual learners. LOL.
Thanks - Darlene. It's definitely worth looking at the different ways you can use things without constantly have to re-invent - as long as you keep them fresh for your readers.
I think you just had a great idea. Re-purposing our articles and posts, I'm going to look and see what I can find of my own. Thanks Beverley!
LoL - It's something I have done quite a lot of in the past - but not so much recently. But seeing some of the articles i did for SA - that are now 2 or 3 years old - they are certainly worth revisiting.
Beverley,
Interesting the ways how to re-use my own articles. Maybe with one article I can create 5 - 10 different articles. Go to know!
But i wonder about the Google ranking. Not sure.
Ha - Ha. You can easily rework articles - You just don't want to put them all on your site.. And Google has no problem at all with reworked articles as long as you do them properly.
Jorge - I'm not suggesting that you write identical articles. You can use bits of articles or whole articles and rework them - but they won't have the same keywords or titles or identical content. Until you've perfected writing articles - don't you dare try!! I'll show you one day exactly what I mean.
Another good one, thanks. I've gone through my site and have done a few videos based on the content there and then post them on YouTube. I'm thinking one day I will try infographics myself.
Thanks Rick
Sensible you. It's good to turn some of your stuff into video. I think most of use tend to stick with what we find fairly comfortable - but you should try the infographics sometime and I should definitely to more video.
