Pacific Huricanes Threaten Hawaii

@mkearns reminds us that hurricane season is here. Hawaii is the bulls eye for hurricanes in the eastern Pacific. Unlike the Gulf of Mexico where any storm is bound to make landfall somewhere on the coast, Hawaii is a tiny target 3000 miles from the nearest resupply.

Emergency Management agencies tell us to be able to take care of our selves for at least two weeks before we can expect any help from the Government. I recommend at least a months supply of food, water, medicines and camping equipment and supplies.

The better prepared you are the more comfortably you will be able to survive and recover from a catastrophe. Know what risks you face. In Hawaii the big one is a hurricane. When we are ready for a hurricane we are ready for almost anything except a nuclear attack and for that there is no way to prepare other than digging a bunker into a mountain.

In Hawaii, we cannot drive out of the devastation zone. When we are hit by a hurricane or other major disaster, we have to ride it out and then draw our communities together to help each other recover. One of the big problems will be business out of business. No business, no job, no income... Have you ever stopped to think what a blessing it is to have the multiple income streams we develop through internet marketing. Our businesses are very resilient. Even if I am totally consumed with rebuilding my home, my income barely has a hiccup.

Be ready to hunker down, ride out the storm and get back to normal as quickly a possible.

When Kauai took a direct hit from at Category 4 storm, it took 20 years to fully recover. Look at Puerot Rico. Almost a year after Maria, some rural areas are still without power and hospitals are still functioning on generators. 4000 people died after the storm because they couldn't get clean water or the health care they needed.

It is young people and the elderly that are most at risk. Get acquainted with your neighbors and know who needs special help. Know who in your community has medical skills and construction skills.

Get involved with your local emergency preparedness agencies. Know how you will respond in an emergency. Survival is not just about being supplied. You have to know how to take care of yourself.

Thank you for the information on preparedness.

Just stay safe.

WOW. Hawaii is having a rough time with the volcano as well. I've been watching that devastation. I realize that it's a small part of the island but still. Based on what I saw in Oahu and Maui, Hawaii is so beautiful. Stay safe!!!!

Whether it is a house fire, a volcanic erruption or a hurricane, for the people affected it is just as great a disaster and the Red Cross is there to help. The point I am trying to make is if you have a resilient income you are in a much better situated to take care of yourself. Everyone needs a side business they can scale up quickly in order to deal with an emergency, There is no better business than IM and no better place to learn IM than here at WA.

AMEN!

We in the Eastern Caribbean are scared of another hurricane this season .we have not gotten over Irma as yet and debris is still lying around.

You have a lot to be concerned about. Storms are getting stronger and more frequent. When your income is dependent on a local business and that business cannot get going in a few weeks, you not longer have an income. Having a diverse inoome coming from many sources and many locations around the world makes us far more resilient than 90% of the people out there.

To all WA family, Don't get discouraged. Just keep plugging away. Learn IM and create the financial resilience we all need. Work you business consistently and it will happen.

How very scary this all is...Take all precautions to be safe. I am afraid hurricanes are changing. They hit the territories they have never landed before, like in central Russia(recently there were a few quite devastating ones ) and they generally become more fierce. May the Lord protect you all.:)

I believe God gave us the ability to make our own decisions and it is up to us to take care of this earth He gave us. So far we have decided to destroy the only planet we can live on.

He doesn't care whether we create an Eden or a Mars. It is within our power to do either. I'm very afraid my my great grandchildren will live in a much more hostile environment than we enjoy today.

Yes, unfortunately looks like it.

Auwe! Let's hope this doesn't turn into the hurricane. I just flew in to Oahu this morning. Will be watching the news for updates. Be careful.

Bill...all good advice. Let's pray you won't have to deal with any disasters directly. Be safe.
Debbie

Thanks for the call out Bill. One big problem is there are no major landmasses in the potential path to wear down the storm!

Traditionally, hurricanes have weakened pretty fast as they approached Hawaii Islands. Only storms that stayed south and then made a sharp hook north would cause trouble. Our ocean is warming and when we have an El Nino we fall right in the track of the storms. Three years ago we had 15 tropical cyclones track within 250 miles of our island. 5 had hurricane force winds and 2 were Cat 3 and 4. The cat 4 hit the Big Island of Hawaii and messed up the sourth side of the island pretty bad. Fortuately the 13000 foot mass of Mauna Loa broke up the storm and saved the rest of the island chain.
This year we have a 40% chance of above normal hurricane activity.

Maybe with a few more plastic bottle gyres out there, artificial slowdowns could occur. LOL
