EU Article 13 - How will it affect IM.

Will the EU proposed Artile 13 break the internet? How can someone like you and me comply with this new copyright law?

Check out this link and tell me how you plan to stay in business.

GDPR and the EU Cookie law are hard enough to comply with. This proposal puts in place a requirement for every website to filter everything they publish to be sure there is no copyright violation. The technology doesn't exist that will enable you and me to comply.

It illustrates just one of many vulnerabilities of the Internet. If the EU doesn't pass this kind of legislation what happens if Russia or China or some other hostile nation enacts such legislation?

Am I an alarmist? No just someone who worries what could happen to my business.

Let's allow Kyle's lead for my the time being. I have been worried about this as well. But Kyle made some excellent points.

Yes, I think we have our own much more important problems having lost net neutrality. The only thing we can depend on in IM is change. I makes our business exciting

They smell money.

If it can't be implemented, nobody will do it. You can't enforce something that millions or billions of people are unable to follow.

The same thing with GDPR. Although a very important regulation, I just wonder how 100 people are going to enforce this new regulation with all of the moving pieces and ensuing litigation that will result from EVERY enforcement.

Good answer by Rich, having just been warned by our own checking system, do not foresee a problem, is you use site content.

The EU is a huge bureaucracy which has a habit of - and a love for - passing laws which it has not thought through simply for sake of doing so.
EU law is unenforceable outside the EU whether they like it or not.
Even if they had the legal right to do so, they do not have the resources to investigate, prosecute and penalize every single breach of GDPR, Clause 13, etc, so a lot of the seeming panic going round over it is pointless.
Those of us living in EU countries have to make the effort to comply for obvious reasons, but any sanctions we may incur will be graduated and will not automatically carry the dreaded $40 Million fine that has been threatened.
Here in the UK, these laws come under the Information Commissioners Office and they have a very common sense approach. They are very helpful and supportive and there is lots of advice which they freely give.
Every country will have it's own equivalent, so we all need to find out who they are, how they intend to comply with and apply these rules - or not - and stop worrying so much about dire consequences which are unlikely to happen or cannot happen to businesses based in Countries outside the EU.

Why do you call Russia a hostile nation? I am from Russia- ever traced any signs of hostility coming from me?

Nothing unfriendly about Russia to me Vera. I no longer have the1950''s mentality! BTW You look great on FB!

Thanks, Mike.
Stereotypes are stubborn things. Thanks for finding me on FB- always good to have extra means of communication.:))

Hi, Vera.

If everyone in Russia were like you, then there would never be any issues.

So nice to see your smiling face again.

Peace, love and gratitude from Canada.

Paul.

:) :) Go easy on her Vera.

We are not supposed to get into politics and I appologize for even getting close. My point is, if the eu implements this, other nations can also make their own mischief.

How do you insert a link from amazon affiliates to your post?

Highlight the text you wish to make the link, then click the little chain link icon on your toolbar and type in the affiliate link.

Wow, thank you for answering my next question. Actually I didn’t ask the right question the first time. I guess what I wanted to ask originally was: how do I find the link to a specific product that I’m trying to promote on amazon affiliate? I know how to find the link to a product on amazon but I don’t think that’s the route to go if want to get credit from amazon, right? I’m an amazon affiliate.

Thank you,

Sierra

Congratulations on Ambassador. Better to paste the link in.

I think that the EU should start trying to get its own houses in order before trying to ride roughshod over the rest of the world, looking on from the sidelines some of the member states seem to be in a state of disarray, both financially and from a political perspective, rant over.

Copyright protection is an important issue around content both online and in the bricks and mortar hard copy books films etc.

There is legislation enacted in most jurisdictions, why the huff and puff, keep it in Europe.

If we are in the online business the key and what we are all learning through the training here in WA is that original content is the way to go, so no real worries about copyright infringement.
