Breaking into the top 50
I broke into the top 50 today. It means I have been pretty successful at helping other WAerss. It also means you have expressed you appreciation of my efforts. The ranking algorithm seems to look at how many comments I receive and how well I interact with those comments.
What does it mean in terms of my overall IM success. Maybe nothing and maybe everything.
In terms of income it means nothing. Only the work I do on my websites makes any difference. On second thought, When I promote my WA blogs on my social media I am connecting 1000s of people to WA. Some of those people will become Premium Members. The WA affiliate program is well worth promoting and sharing your blogs is a good way to promote it.
I terms of IM knowledge, sharing what I learn from you helps fix that information in my memory and documents what I have learned so I can got back and review it.
In terms of relationships, I am getting to know some of you and we are actually having some conversations. Who know where that might lead. You give me ides for more blogs; that is for sure. I have just spent the last six hours responding to the 128 comments I have gotten so far.
Was I wasting my time? I hope not. I was able to answer some people's questions and actually engage in conversation with several groups. Will those relationships develop into anything profitable? Probably not. But if you are kind enough to comment on my blog post I must achnowledge that kindness. Thank you, everyone who commeted,
It feels good to be moving up in the rankings and to be doing so with relatively little time spent at WA. I believe the time spent is well worth while.

Firstly, congratulations, Bill !!
On the conundrum you pose, it seems to me as long as a balance can be struck between the internal activity (WA) and your external activity (your business online) then surely the time spent here at WA has the potential to add value for a number of reasons, including the practise element before going live and the feedback you can obtain to help fine tune your content.
Whether there’s any direct correlation between ranking and business performance is another matter. However, if there’s suspicion that ranking is at the expense of business performance then it follows that one should spend less time on internal activity?

I agree completely. Our business has to come first. And it is so easy to put all our time into WA. For instance, I have spent all day responding to comments to my posts. Will it make me money Probably not. Did it interfere with my doing work on my business? Absolutely. It is a balancing act we all are involved in. I know most of our leaders are successful. They must be doing something right. If people here at WA find I can help them they will want to know what I do. Maybe somewhere down the road what I do here will pay off in direct income. For now my monetary reward is based on my learning how to build and promote websites. My personal reward comes from being able to help others.
Excellent Bill, your last two sentences say everything and for many here, as well as your good self, there is satisfaction gained from helping others, something I’m most grateful for.
The only outstanding question then is whether this will deliver a return to your business in the long term? I believe it will, apply the same approach in your business affairs and you will build up trust and reputation. These are key factors in branding and I think will surely add to your business performance.
