Back links and how to get them

When a webpage gets "linked" to another, this is often referred to as a "back link". There are many advantages to having these point back to your website. The biggest is they help get better rankings with search engines. It is, however, important to get back links from quality sites and to keep in mind that the number of links is not as important as the quality of the links. Links can be obtained from any site but if the site is not related to your niche, it would be of little use since the links should be kept relevant to your niche as much as possible. Let's say, for example, your site is about hamster care. It would be of little use to have a link from a page about dog care. While they are somewhat related and both a type of animal, dogs are not 100% relevant to hamsters and their care would be quite different from that of hamsters. Some of the advantages for having back links are improving search engine rank (as previously mentioned), faster indexing of you site, and referral traffic, Referral traffic is always a good thing and the chances of it bouncing are very slim because it is already related to your niche. Here at Wealthy Affiliate we already use two methods. One is blogs (typically short articles) and the other is by writing comments about your fellow members' sites. There is a third method, submit to web directories, but I can't vouch for it's validity.
