When I try to log in to my dashboard for fraservalleydining.com I end up at this web address: http://fras

Thanks, Dorina. Already done

You welcome!I'm glad you solved your problem, already done=solved

Sorry can't help but following the thread to know the answer though

Got it figured. Had to clear my DNS stuff. Works fine now.

Sometimes you have to manually type in the password for it to work. If not, clear your cache and wait for a couple of minutes. It happened to me before. It's strange. Sometimes WA websites seem to be lagging.

Hope that helped

Vince

How do I clear my cache?

Maybe he is referring to internet explorer history. But I do believe that you should reset the password and try again. Can you please let me know if this worked. I wish you all the best.

I've tried resetting the password twice and gotten no further. There's something weird going on, as I can access my other two sites no problem.

If the problem persists I believe that you should contact site support. They will help you.

Thanks.

Robin's reset password is a good thing to try. The one time I could not get to my dashboard it was a plugin problem.

Marty

Did you reset your password? If not, this may help.

I have an idea for a new website tied to my current one with and expansion of the original idea, but with a totally different slant. If I use my current website url and build t

How about using a subdomain for the second site? Do you think that would do what you need?

Not really, as I want to set up an online training facility for people who really want to learn budget cooking. Especially those guys who want to impress their ladies.

What you should consider doing is create a second website and when relevant link to your first website and vice versa. This is external linking. It's really good for SEO.
Hope this helps.

Hi - I agree with Laura.

If it's along the same lines, but different to your current content - and possibly a slightly different audience, then setup a new domain and website - and where the two sites cross (similar pages/posts) rather than create duplicate content, have a small post, but link to the other sites post.

All the best, Mark

Great. Thanks Mark.

What you can do is this, --yourcurrenturl.com/yournewurl. The forward slash at the end of your original url should send folks to your new one

That's a great idea too. I've got lots of stuff now. I love this community.

If your hosting with WA, it doesn't allow you to install a second instance of WordPress like that. You can do it on other hosting servers, but not here. It does have the subdomain functionality, as I understand. yournewurl.yourcurrenturl.com

Yes, you cannot have 2 websites on the same URL. It is like have 2 home at the same adress. There is to be something different in the URL.

OK. Thanks Max. Makes sense.

I have a great video sent to me from a friend and would love to share it with my WA network.

I am a bit confused from the Title versus the content of your question. If you mean can we place Videos in a Wordpress blog the answer is yes. If you are asking can you place a video on this forum then Kyle is the one to ask.

I have been adding other folks YouTube videos for years with no problems. I always EMBED rather than link. None the less the owner of the video gets the $ when google starts the video with an ad.

Simply copy the URL and paste it in. There are some plugings but the more recent versions of Wordpress make it seemless. Since my site is political I also embed from MSNBC, FOX, CBS ect. These are a bit more difficult. You willl find the EMBED CODE below the video. The producers actually WANT you to embed it. However, sometimes I have a problem sizing the NON-YouTube videos to fit correctly thus I prefer YouTube.

One thing I have not learned is how to add tags to the embeded videos for SEO purposes.

Thanks Brian. It got sorted out and I'm happy now. Thanks for the input.

I use YouTube videos on almost all my blogs. They don't automatically open but have to be clicked on.

The video you have received may be too heavy for your website without going through youtube first.

You can share it here so long as it does not have affiliate links in it or put it on your website

I created one thru Youtube and put it on my website. Go to cloverchess.com if you would like to see what I did.

The terms and conditions of YouTube mean that anyone can embed the video on their website. Whilst you can use them it is debatable whether you want to send somebody out of your website somewhere else

Yes, but if you embed it right, it plays right there on your site with out ever leaving it. I use You Tube videos to show fishing techniques quite a bit. Good luck

Actually that is true but the only way I know to do that is to make it play upon opening and I don't always want to do that. In the Internet marketing niche someone may well be at work

I also customize the code so the YT player does not show any suggested videos after the main video stopped playing. This way I know that my visitor will not get carried away by other videos and will stay on my site ;)

I learned how to take the embed link and place it where I want on my blog, by switching from visual mode to text mode on the word press post page. I usually create about three lines of blank space and center it there. I found a training post here that described how to do this and have had good luck doing it. Good luck to all.

yes I do too

Can you send me an e-mail with the details of how to do that. I would like to learn that. david@bassinworld.com

Go to the action video on youtube, click on Share -> Embed -> Show More - and you'll see quite a few customization options ;)

It needs a video really because it involves changing code

That is a far simpler way than I do it thank you Alex today that will make my day a lot easier

Setting up a Youtube account is pretty straight forward. When you are viewing a video, I discovered this by accident, right click the video and click on copy url. Then find a good youtube downloader and place the url in there, hit download and you've got it on the computer. The same follows for Facebook, where this one came from. Easy when you learn it.

If you have the permission then yes.. you can add it..

It is always wise to check with the owner first...

Another question was asked similar to yours and Marion Black answers it well .. you can find it on this link!

Hope it helps

Chris

you never have to ask permission Chris its is in their terms and conditions when you upload a video you lose the copywrite

Well that is something I didnt know and is new to me.. I remember asking a question some time back with reference to this and was told it was better to ask the permission of the owner of the video...

So basically.. if i like a video.. i can use it.. no matter what?

it is not quite that simple. Youtube has two types of ways of uploading a video. One is a public video which goes into all the search engines and in this instance it is that simple. If you will upload a public video you lose the copyright.
Secondly some people put up private videos technically these don't go in the search engines and technically they should not be shared though they can be of course shared. In this instance they are not free to use but equally the other side of the coin is if you are stupid enough to use a public place to put private videos then you're asking for trouble

Also the ones that don't want it shared are not able to be embedded. When you try to click the embed button you will get a message saying the creator is not allowing this video to be shared.

well .. a lesson learned today :) thanks for that!

Chris

I want to move my Recipes of the Week to their own page.

You pretty much have to cut/ copy and paste to their new location. re install the pics. You have the new location created?

Yes. I want to move them to the Recipe of the Week page.

Create a category for your top menu and place the recipes under that category. There should be training by Kyle in the certification courses for organizing your website menu.

Hope this helps.

I don't see where it goes and would dearly love to get on with my associate status with Amazon.

As I recall when I did mine it has a lot to do with the particular theme you are using. I would play by inserting text widgets in different spots.

Doing the above will generate the ad in all posts. But there are some plugins to stick ads in different posts.

-------------------Below is an idea to test for not just ads but anything----

I went to GoDaddy (or what ever nameserver you are using) and registered a site just for testing and playing around. Mine is:

http://testing-here.com/ The theme I am testing is one I designed using a program called Artisteer.

When you go there it has some old material with the website DNS of another site. But MY POINT in all this is you can play with this make believe site and not have to worry you will harm your real site.

Stick different themes in then add some filler posts.

Add and remove various plugins to see what they do and not have to worry you are hurting your REAL site.

Next play around attempting to add text widgets. When you get it right. REMOVE the ads as Amazon may not like that. Also in settings tell Google NOT to index this as it would duplicate your real site.

I have only had Amazon banners work by placing the code in a text widget.

thanks Grandma.

I don't know if this relates to you. If you are using google chrome as your web browser and you have added the code but still can't see your links or Amazon ads, make sure that you have "Adblock" paused or switched off.

Take a look here

I had to study the training. Adding Amazon links.

If you want to insert a text link, go to your post editor in your dashboard, highlight the text you want to link, click the chainlink icon above the text field in your editor, and paste the link there.

For images you can click the image in your editor, hit the edit icon (picture of a pencil), and there is a field to paste a link.

This doesn't work for Amazon code. It must be linked through your text editor. Not your visual editor. You must take care to link it in the right place, and not mess up existing code.

Not on wordpress I should say.

In your editor in the text tab if you want to insert in the post or page. But if you want it in the widgets, paste it in the text widgets.

There are several ways. For example in the text link: you take the link from Amazon with your affiliate code, highlight anchor text and paste. This is explained in lessons for any link.
