Leaking Washing Machine!

Just some info for anyone that may have this problem!! We had to move in January of this year to an old house as it was the only one we could find in the allotted timeframe. This house did not have a washer or a dryer. We could not afford to buy one, so we did without for about 5 months. In May, we decided to try and buy a used one. We searched Craigslist and found one for $100.00. We were very excited! It turns out it is a SMART MACHINE and a really new model. We had never had one before. It took us several weeks to get it hooked up as I was ill. We finally got it hooked up, and washed about 5 or 6 loads. THEN IT STARTED LEAKING!! Just our luck! With each load, it is not a lot of water, but water is water!

We searched for a tray to put under it as our washer at the house we left had one. It was metal or aluminum. We found a tray at Home Depot but it was plastic. I bought it anyway, but when I got it home, my husband was afraid it would crack, so we ended up taking it back. Then we looked on the web, at Sears, etc. but all metal trays were $119.00 and above. Hell, that was more than we even paid for the SMART WASHER!

Once again, we could not afford this. SOOOOOOO---- my husband called a local sheetmetal place, explained our problem, and they said they would gladly make us one by the next day for ----------------- $25.00!!!!!!!!!!! WooHoo!! We picked it up yesterday and installed it just a few minutes ago! Now I can finally do laundry again!!

Just wanted to let anyone know, that might have this problem, how to solve it relatively inexpensively!! We are old, and were worried we would not be able to get the pan under the washing machine. If you have this problem and want to know how to do it, send me a private message. I hope this will help SOMEONE!!

Great Connie! I too try to do as much as possible myself. It's a bit a hobby of mine. But it saved me many times quite some money.

Good Morning Connie,

Awful those machines, they can be a pain I must say. I have a love/hate relationship with machines in general. Like my little computer which I would have thrown out of the window a couple of times if in Spain there were no iron bars, so I could not do that.
Did you see my latest WA post on Welcome Refugees? there you can meet my US Expat.

Have a good Sunday, Taetske

Hoping nothing else leaks or breaks. I was in a similar position and had to do the laundromat routine for a while. Expensive and it makes the job harder. Thanks for the advice on how to fix this inexpensively. Hats off to you for being a good problem solver!
Take good care!
Pat

I know what it is like not to afford something.

Good!

As they say, necessity is the mother of invention.
