12 Simple Writing Tips Everyone Should know
Not everyone is born a writer. A lot of people need to learn how to write. I'm so glad we have a lesson on writing our contents with intent.
I love writing but I lack the skills. I thought that this article is worth sharing. Here are 12 tips in addition to what we already learned:
- Proof read your writing.
- Know your audience.
- Always avoid alliterations.
- Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
- Avoid cliches like the plague. They're old hat.
- Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
- Be more or less specific.
- Never generalize.
- Be consistent.
- Dont' be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous.
- Who needs rhetorical questions?
- Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.

Think of all the great authors out there. One writing style doesn't appeal to everyone. Write what you know and what you learn. It will appeal to someone and it will be good.
That's right, Deborah. Different people have different taste. Out of the billions who are searching the webs, there will still be many who will like your writings! Anyone can be successful in his/her own right! Cheers to all!
Thanks to all the *likers of my blog. I'm sure that we will all get to write very well as we keep in mind these tips! Keep writing, everyone!
This is very relevant for me betcha, as I am contemplating my first blog. You can let me know how many of the twelve tips I stumbled over or completely forgot about.
Hi Con. I'm glad to know that you find my blog relevant. Don't worry about anything. There is always room for improvement. The first is always the hardest. But once you get the hang of it, you will love to write all the time. Go for your first!
It's also important to find your own "writer's voice", how you write, the way you say things. Your readers will read between the lines as they get to know you better. Thanks for this.
That's true, Rick. Sometimes, we don't even have to write something. But because our readers know our style already, they kinda know what we mean. Although it's best to be explicit as readers tend to make a different interpretation. Thanks for reading.
When it comes to writing articles I tend to have trouble with numbers 1, 2, 3, 4........11 and finally number 12. :)
Thanks for the tips!
Don't worry. You're not alone, Darry. I do, too...but there's always room for improvement. One thing I love @ WA is we have a place to develop ourselves as writers. There's the discussions, comments, blogs, etc. Just keep writing!
