Would You Stop for $0.25? (The Bezos Formula)

This will be a fun post. So humor me...

Yesterday, I ran to the Apple Store to get my iPad looked at and while I was walking back to my car, I found $5 on the ground!

I was ecstatic! Totally Passive Income, right? lol.

Ethics aside, I looked around and saw no one and figured, oh well, I guess I could find a good home for this $5.

As a blogger, your mind is constantly going looking for fun creative blog ideas and it struck me...

"How much money would NOT be worth my time to stop and pick up?"

So I pose that question to you... What is the least amount of money that would cause you to just walk over it? (Post a comment below letting me know your amount....)

What I think....

I think most people would stop for $5. I think most people would stop for $1 (provided it is not filthy). But then, would you stop for a quarter? Dime? Nickel? Penny?

I think most people would NOT stop and pick up a penny. But what is MY limit? I think I would walk over a nickel, consider a dime, and definitely stop for the quarter. So that is my hard limit, I would definitely stop for 25 cents.

Got your amount yet? OK Good... let's move on.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as of May 1, 2018, had a net worth of $132 Billion (Sheesh...)

On July 16, 2018, Bezos' net worth increased to $151 Billion. (Sheesh...x2 )

Let's Do Some Math...

So Bezos' net worth INCREASED $19 Billion in a 76-day period. When you divide that $19B by 76 days you get $250 Million per day. Again divide that by 24 hours and you get $10.4 Million per hour. Next, divide that by 60 minutes and you arrive to roughly $173,000 per minute. Finally, divide 60 seconds and we have our asinine PER SECOND income of about $2,900.

Phew... still with me? Did I lose you?

In that period, Jeff Bezos made $2,900 per second. (Sheesh...x3)

So now... I raise my original question, "How much money would NOT be worth Bezos' time to pick up?"

If you figured the process of (1) seeing the money, (2) contemplating on picking it up, (3)deciding and leaning down to pick it up, and (4) placing into your pocket... lets give that an entire scenario about 5 seconds in duration.

That means that if Bezos was walking and stumbled upon anything less than $14,500, it would NOT be worth his time to pick it up. (sheesh... x4)

Let that sink in... It is truly mind boggling.

So Why This Breakdown?

What does this have to do with blogging or affiliate marketing?

Well, Amazon is one of the biggest affiliate marketing programs on the planet, and that does not look like it will change anytime soon because as Bezos' financial situation just taught us... it's growing at an alarming rate.

So if you ever thought that affiliate marketing was the "trendy and chic" thing to do... you are totally misguided. People are making fortunes off this stuff and WA teaches how to do it step by step.

If you are new to WA and juggling the training and building your site with your full-time job (which most of us are), I urge you to keep pushing and buy out the time to build your empire.

You are working toward something that truly is life changing.

If you push hard enough, sooner or later, your side hustle can become your full-time job.

Keep pushing, keep learning, Keep Crushing It 10x, My Friend (Thanks TonyHamilton).

Now, think twice before you step over that 25 cents.

I seem to only find pennies! I do, however, stop and pick them up. The reason: I was raised believing that if you found a penny, it was a lucky penny! So I just cannot seem to walk past a penny, just in case it happens to be a lucky penny!!

I stop for every penny.

As a matter of fact I believe in luck. I believe in luck so much I actually think it's an attributed skill that can be enhanced and worked on.

I saw 5 pennies on the ground the other day. 4 were heads up. One was face down. I took the four heads up and flipped the last one to heads and left it.

Think I'm crazy? I'll be reminded I'm not next time I barely dodge a car accident or I lose a wallet with $500 in it and it gets returned to me in full.

Luck is very real so don't brush off those pennies on the floor lol.

Good one.

We are all different and that is what makes it interesting.

WOW i got to the end in the end. Love this post.

I would pick it up. I mean if it is money I would pick it up. does not matter how much.

Today you can make a fortune pick up money because it seems as if people do not value coins so it is thrown away like trash. so I find quite a bit just laying around.

To be honest I don't even know why people beg any more because all they have to do is walk around and find it. In London anyway.

This leads me to a funny story., Well i think it is funny away.

One day I was coming out of a store and looked down to see £10.00 laying on the floor at the exact same time as a young man.

We both looked at each other and then I gave him the nod to say he could pick it up.

He picked it up and thanked me saying he really needed it and was grateful.

I was glad for him because he really did look like he needed it more than I.

yeah, typically times when we do selfless stuff like that, it comes back to us 10 fold. So kudos for doing the classy thing

Thank you

Amazing article, thanks for motivation!

All the best

Sai

glad it helps!

I'll pick up a penny any day. Or any amount I see on the ground. Overds $5.00 I'll probably try to find the owner, because it could possibly be the last money they had and they would need it. Thank you for the though provoking analogy.

yeah, i understand, that is kind of why i said 'ethics aside' lol.

Great post. I think I would pass up the penny, but any girl loves those shiny silver coins.

ha, i am sure!

My wife and Have two water cooler jugs we put our change in and when their both filled cash them in and put it in our savings. And I'm not to proud to pick a penny up off the ground. Love this post.

every little bit helps!

Thanks for a thought provoking post Chris!
I pick up pennies because I feel (right or wrong) that they are “pennies from heaven” put there as a sign from friends and family who have passed just to tell me “hello”!
Happy Friday!
