The Answer is No!

I have a story to share...

So I had a bit of 'good luck' with a new service that I am trying out.

But when I stepped back and really thought about it... was it really luck? or was it just taking life by the horns and making things happen!?!

Well, I am a true believer in the thinking that the answer is NO to every question that is not asked. (I know it isn't always the case, but work with me here...)

So I have been using an optimization tool for my Youtube Channel for a while now and I think I had peaked with it. My growth is steady but I want to dive deeper into analytics and make videos that talk to a larger audience.

I looked at a few options, one in particular, in the past but was disappointed in the crazy cost of the product (about $600/year for a single tool). The product is clearly geared toward people that are already making money with their business and want to re-invest and double-down on what is working.

So after I see the price, I laughed and continued using my current tool.

After a while...

I kept having that nagging feeling that I could be missing out on something and I noticed newer videos were not getting the same traction that older videos were getting, so I decided to take another look at the tool.

I landed on the page and low and behold, the price is the same $600 that was there the last time I checked. So I searched the site and found a contact email address.

I emailed saying:

"Hi, I am interested in your product but have been turned off by the price, are you offering any discounts for someone ready to purchase right now?"

Innocent request, no?

So, I got an email back a few minutes later saying:

"Hi Chris, We can offer you a 45% discount for the first 12 months with no commitment on your part, you can cancel at anytime."

I was floored.

The first time I saw the service, I quickly dismissed because of price. Then I finally had the presence of mind and courage to simply ask for a discount and they freakin' gave me an unadvertised discount.

Trust me, after they offered the discount, I surfed the net for a bit for a similar discount being offered and no where else had the offer that the company themselves were willing to give to me, so it was truly an unadvertised sale.

In fact, the new, bigger, and more detailed service now is CHEAPER than my original optimization tool!

Now, I do not think I am special or anything, but I do know for a fact I would not have gotten such a top-notch program for nearly half price if I had never asked for it.

Now this is never guaranteed, but always worth a shot.

So lesson to take away from this...

When you are a business owner, you have buying power. Buying power that vendors want. We are paying the money to use services like email auto-responders, premium themes, push notifications, and other premium tools.

So REGARDLESS of listed price, it never hurts to try to NEGOTIATE with companies to see if you can get something at a discounted rate. Most times, they would rather make the sale with you at a cheaper price than no sale at all.

This is especially true when you have INFLUENCE and an audience of people built up from your blog or social media following.

Always remember it is cheaper to keep a customer than to acquire a new one. So me signing up for their service not only saved me money, but it saved them money in acquisition cost.

We as business owners have more power than we think, and we have the power to negotiate regardless of the listed price.

Take my advice... learn a new way to think.

It never hurts to ask. The worst they can say is... No.

Your absolutely correct. Chris I really thank you for making this post! Why? Because this is an "Innocent", but powerful idea that led to something huge, not just for you but for the company as well! You sharing this with us now opens our minds to a very simple idea, that often times gets overlooked. Ask and you shall receive! Thank you a ton,

Brandon.
