Getting into the flow

Considering how much of content marketing is about creating new content, I decided to revisit some old writings.

I used to write longhand in composition notebooks. You know the ones. Right? Those hardcoverschool kid notebooks with the black mottled covers.

It was a daily exercise that I did as morning pages. There was no particular theme to them. Just sit down with a cup of coffee and blast off . The objective was to write at least two to three pages longhand in one hour.

Today of course that would seem silly considering the use of a computer is so much faster. But my typing skills are weak at best. So for me typing is only marginally faster. I'm embarrassed to admit that, but it's just the way it is.

It's amazing how freeing this exercise can be.

No hard and fast objective.

No mental editing.

No need to worry, if it will be content ready.

Just the pure joy of communicating with the universe and all it's glorious expansiveness.

For me the main benefit is the clearing away of the rusty waters and getting the clear water flowing. Anyone who has ever lived in an old house with galvanized plumbing will be able to relate.

Besides, when I consider how much laboing I can do to get started anyway, putting in a relaxed hour of pure creation is a fomm of gentle mental exercise.

I highly recommend it for anyone, who gets stuck in the mud at the beginning of the day.

And there you have it.

Not an hour, but it was fun and now I think I'll get another cup and write some awesome content.

Have a good one.

Be well

I've heard of people doing that. I still keep a journal. I don't write in it everyday but when I do, all kinds of things come up and before I know it, 2-3 pages are written. While I'm a good typist, there's something about writing in long hand. I've always joked and said cursive is a senior person's secret code. Kids don't learn that any more. Such a shame too.

Dan, I sued and still use those and legal pads to compose the first drafts of most of my books!

They are really good for composition...

I totally agree, Dan!

I never tried this- Just sit down and blast off at least two to three pages longhand in one hour with no particular theme to them. If it as liberating as you say I am in- time to try a new approach since I usually take a lot of time writing in my actual work at times even a few sentences.

To getting into the flow of a writing beast!!!

I do it very early. I'm usually up at 5am. I like the quiet. Just let it rip. You'll be amazed. If you type well, I would go that route. But, as I said my typing leaves much to be desired. The idea is to just show up at the page and write down what you hear your inner voice saying.. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Dan, I certainly can relate to the typing. I actually took a typing class in High school but was young and foolish then.
Will have to take some typing lessons soon.
Once you start something it is nice for the ideas to flow.

All the best,
Michael

Hi Dan, some fantastic tips here for getting going in the morning!

I'll have to give some a try.
