Social Media Maze

I just took a look at the calendar and realized it was October. But what happened to September? Oh yes, I remember now. The first three weeks I wrestled with a massive sinus infection. The rest of the month I spent learning how to breathe again.

Also, during September I decided to take Kyle's recommendation and sign up with Facebook. I have been dodging social media for years, but I realized that I needed traffic on my websites or I would never see a dollar earned again.

Signing up with Facebook was only slightly less miserable than nursing the sinus infection. First of all I installed Sassy Social Share plug-in on the one Website and started filling out the necessary information. Facebook dominates the social media. Other social media copy most of what Facebook demands in order to get your account set-up.

If you are new and signing up for a business page on Facebook, get ready for a marathon. I thought I would never get finished. Facebook now demands a URL Privacy Policy and a URL Terms and Conditions document.

Our "one size fits all" privacy policy will not work anymore. In order to get an app ID and an app secret, changes must be made. You will need these apps if you are sharing posts on your Facebook business page. By now, I wasn't sure what I was doing or what I would be doing, but I decided to get everything I needed to operate on Facebook.

Google is your answer here. You won't find the information you need except on Google(Yahoo and Bing, too, I think).

It is necessary to log in to a Facebook for Developers site. This is where you will find the Apps Dashboard. You must follow the Dashboard steps and information on how to convert your Privacy Policy page and draw up your Terms and Conditions page.

Developers.Facebook.com is one site. I read several blogs and ended up on TermsFeed platform. This platform has very good information and directions on how to write up your URL with the right words and phrases in it.

They will also generate a policy and terms for you. I decided to go this route, even though there was a fee, depending on what you order to cover your specific needs. They will also provide a copy for your website and will host your documents for free on their platform. They will automatically update your documents when changes are made.

This is where you need to be very careful on how you decide what to cover in your documents.

I registered as an individual. You will see why, when you go through the application. Also, be careful about how you describe your business in the area of buyng, selling and shipping. Of course changes can be made in your documents when necessary. but, it is easier to get it right the first time.

That is how I spent September. So now forward into social media !

Anyone That can make Facebook work for them has my respect. It has certainly never worked for me. Jim

Must admit I never saw the point in social media until I started an online business 10 years ago Barbara. Now I know its a valuable resource.
You have to start with a personal page on FB to be able to set up a business page. I have had one for years and found it to be very good until the last year when they kept limiting the reach of small businesses more and more. I still have a page of course and have automated posts go to it.
I find Twitter far better for producing sales for my original business and traffic for my sites here. Worth signing up for that too.
Pinterest is easy and only needs a few things to be pinned every so often for it to grow.
Instagram is supposed to be excellent for business but so far I don't do much with mine.
Good luck.

Great points Linda. Pinterest is the only social media that drives traffic to us. All the others want you to stay on their site. And Pinterest is the favorite of females, which are 90% of my targeted audience as I am a Personal Trainer.

I am not sure why so many women like Pinterest or how they have so much time to waste on it. It seems to be a good tool though.

Try Pinterest. I think it is the best platform for driving traffic to our websites. Facebook does not like me and I don't need them.

I agree. I get way more from Pinterest than FB. I just signed up with Instagram so I am gonna give that a try.

Kathleen, go back and watch Jay's Instagram training from last month. He did 4 straight weeks on Instagram. Those were the first tutorials I have watched of his.
Jay is a gem. I got my Instagram business site up and it is already paying off. I will not do Facistbook. Instagram is huge for the under 35 age group if that is your targeted audience.

Facebook business wise is pretty much dead now for the small business. Unless you want to pay and then maybe a quarter of those who like your page will actually get to see it.

If your political beliefs do not jibe with Zuckerbergs, none of your friends see anything you post. I have proven that by setting up dummy accounts.

PragerU goes back to Federal court this week in their lawsuit against YouTube and Facebook. And they will win.

That doesn't surprise me at all.
I don't post any political, religious or any beliefs it just seems to be small businesses. All the small/micro businesses are feeling it. Many are crafters and have always used FB to sell but it takes hours to make any headway and the little you do gain isn't worth the time.
Many have moved to Instagram and in time he will do the same there I expect.

Jay had 4 straight weeks of Instagram tutorials last month. I watched them all and am setting up an Instagram business account now. There are some really great tools on their platform that can help us. Many.

I do have Instagram but its only got 730 or so followers unless its gained more since I last looked. I also know how to post from my desktop and laptop to make it easier. I just haven't got to grips with it yet. I have little bursts of enthusiasm and that's it for a while.
I will have to make the time to look at the training on it. Thank you Mark.
