Painting a Word Picture

So, we are now into our second month of the Super Affiliate challenge, and for some reason, it doesn't seem as formidable as the first month was. Maybe we've found out that we can do more when we are challenged.

I was working on my list of keywords this afternoon and thinking about how to make these keywords more captivating (I believe that was the word Kyle used). We are challenged with the notion that we have to add a few words to make that keyword into a captivating title. It's sort of like painting a word picture. In fact, words can be turned into beautiful word pictures when we put our minds to it.

Think about the sky. Now color it blue. Put a cloud in it, no, put a puffy cloud in it. Color the puffy cloud white. Now you are not just thinking about the sky. You are seeing a blue sky with puffy white clouds floating across on a lazy afternoon. That's painting a word picture. It's a technique we can all use in these numerous posts we have to write.

We all have memories, pleasant memories, funny memories, or teaching memories that we can use in our articles to describe whatever subject it is that we are wrestling with. We sometimes forget to look back into our own past to find things that we can draw on.

Not all research needs to be done through Google, or books, or dictionaries. After we have done the book and online research, then we can add experience research. After all, words are all we have. Use them to paint pictures.

was just doing this in a memoir I'm revising for publication, describing living on a farm in France when I was, ahem, young!

Very good Barbara, for my last three posts in month 1 of the SAC I interjected more personal feelings and experience in the writing. Not sure if it was more captivating but it was more fun to write.

Very true. I had to do just that today for my cat website. Too busy working on SAC; had no post. So made one up. Lucinda, my literate cat made some comparisons between humans and cats. It was rather fun.
