Mission Accomplished, Back to Work

Some of you who caught my last blog may have wondered if I finished my project in time for Christmas. Well, yes I did. The project was finishing phase two of my family ancestry in time to give it to my grandchildren.

If you should ever take on a project like this, you will find out that it has an elastic quality. It just keeps expanding over historical events. You find people you never heard of before, and events that they lived through.

Last year, I finished tracing my paternal male ancestry back to the 1600's. That was the first installment that followed the family name. My grandchildren were reasonably interested in what I found and I promised them the rest of the paternal side for this Christmas. I found out I was going back in time to 975 A.D. My paternal grandmother had brought quite a history to the family when she married my paternal grandfather.

I joined WA last year, and most of my time was caught up in learning what all this online business was about, doing the lessons, building a website, writing content, etc. Other writing projects were shoved aside. In the early part of November I realized that I had an unfinished project that I had promised for this Christmas.

Now my grandchildren are all adults and would understand an unkept promise, if they remembered it at all, but I made the promise, and I had to keep it. And I did. At 8 o'clock Christmas Eve the books were finshed and I was wrapping them for Christmas Day.

All of this leads me back to WA with some thoughts that may help those of you who find yourselves in the same place that I am: at a standstill. It wasn't too hard to pull time away from WA because I wasn't going anywhere.

I was just going in circles trying to move forward and not making it. This is where, I think, many of you decide to call it quits. You have worked hard, you have written content, you are trying to understand what to do next, but it's not coming. So, you decide, that WA is not for you.

This is where you are wrong. Everybody hits a tough place in the road. Everybody gets rejected. But, if you quit now, you will never know what you could have done. None of us learn at the same pace.

Just because the guy that started 3 months after you did is raking in the money, doesn't mean you won't. It just means that you need more time. Go back; redo the lessons, reread the directions, ask questions. Yes,I know all that takes time, but at least, you're using time to learn.

By the way, WordPress has extensive information on how to use every part of their platform. If you don't know how to do something in WordPress, find their tutorials and explanations and read through them. It helps.

Whenever you are reading information on a topic, and you hit a "Learn more " break, click on it, and you'll find additional information.Sometimes it's helpful, sometimes not. Google it. Keep on working through it. Promise yourself you won't quit.

Thanks Barb for your encouraging words. I bet your grandchildren really appreciated the effort it took to make their ancestry come alive. At the time I was doing mine, I was enjoying it so much, but now have lost the desire to continue with it and for something that extensive, you must have desire. Just like here at WA. We must have the deep down desire to succeed or we're just wasting time and money. Newbies this is hard work. There is nothing easy about it. I've had my break now and ready to start 2020 with renewed energy and excitement.

Take care
Charlotte

You are right Charlotte. Desire is the key. In this business you have to want to do it and keep on even when things get difficult. Too many online things fool people into thinking that big money comes easy. It doesn't. Happy New Year.

Good advice. Congratulations on finishing the books.

Perfect post, Barb, I enjoyed reading that! It's so true that we should never give up and we also shouldn't look at others what they accomplished thinking we should/could have been there. Everyone's path is different. What matters is persistence and trust in the process.
