This is not good!

OK so what is with this plug-in overload?
Every plug-in I have has either been recommended by members in the know - right here at WA or by Jay in his training.

This is what I currently have installed:

  • All in One SEO
  • Comment Approved Notifier Extended
  • Contact Form 7
  • Elementor (not activated)
  • EWWW Image Optimizer
  • Header and Footer Scripts (for Amazon universal link)
  • Pretty Links
  • Table of Contents Plus (Jay)
  • Webcraftic Clearfy – WordPress optimization plugin (Ihave no idea what this does)
  • Widget Options (to remove sidebar on certain posts - not really happy with it as the sidebar is not visible but there is still empty space there)
  • WP GDPR Compliance

I think I may need to change my theme (currently using Lifestyle which is a child theme of Omega) to achieve what I want to. I am happy with that but deciding on a free one that does what I need is proving tiresome.

So which plug-ins shall I toss?

Or what theme shall I use?

Over to my trusted tribe ...

If you can absorb the expense, Divithemes have plugin functionality leveraged into the theme without installation. worth considering!

My dilemma is always which one will suit and each is a learning curve. I have this thing about spending days finding my way around only to discover that what I bought isn't quite what I thought.
But thanks I will take a look.

Hi Lawrence

I know there were a few discussions about this in the past, and especially after GDPR, since it influenced just about everybody's plugin rating.

I know Loes and MarionBlack (amongst others) have discussed this. I know Loes' plugin rating is also at 0.

This rating is only something that is suggested by WA.

I remember that somebody chimed in and said that he/she has something like 20+ plugins and that it doesn't make any difference to the loading speed of their website.

BUT, the person did say that he/she do test every plugin, before deciding to keep it, since, as you know, not all plugins are of equal quality. So they would keep on testing the plugins on their test website, until a "keeper" is found.

I hope this helps a little, Lawrence!

Cool thanks - ill do a search.

Check your plug-ins carefully. I usually find that you can keep them all, just deactivate what you aren't using. Depending on what I am trying to accomplish, they can be toggled on/off. Bring em back on when you need it.

Hope it helps you a little!

I didn't know you could toggle them on and off.
Wouldn't that effect the site when they are off?
For example if I toggle Pretty links "off" would the links still work while off and someone clicks on them?
