Optimising Image Titles and Alt Text

This is my question.

I have read that there are a number of ways to optimise image titles for SEO purposes and would like some clarification from the SEO experts within the WA family.

I may also be getting my brain scrambled and confused with "Alt text" so help me out here please.

How should we title our images?

I am confused between these options.

  • The Title of The Image.jpg
  • The-Title-of-the-image.jpg
  • The_Title_of_The_Image.jpg

And likewise "Alt text - which is correct?

  • The description of the image
  • The-description-of-the-image
  • The_description_of_the_image

Jay has some training on this, but for the Alt Text, you want to describe the image, and if you can include your keyword naturally within the description, all the better. You should write naturally as when you move the cursor over the image, your description will appear, and you want it to be legible.

I can't give you a definitive answer but I always type mine in normal text Lawrence.

For the alt text, I try to describe the image, as it is intended to help visually impaired people, for one thing. For the title I put my keyword for that post. Not sure if this is a good thing or not, but it passes muster in my broken link checker, which checks every imaginable thing in the website.

I get good results with simply writing titles and alt in natural format.
The most important thing is something relevant there.

I know there are many different explanations/theories but my advice to to just keep it simple and not be confused or worried:)

Just be Detailed and relevant,

The main purpose for both of these besides SEO benefit is for folks with impairments. Please them pleases search engines.

all the best Rob

Thanks Rob. I've seen people do them in all three ways and wondering if one was better than the other and maybe if one was a particularly bad way of doing it.

And I don't particularly want to go back and redo all of mine ...

While you're redoing yours ... I could loan you my password for a few days. lol :D

Haha - yeah right
