I do have my site set to static homepage, however in the navigation menu there's a page called "Posts" that still shows recent posts. It works fine when viewing on the computer but images don't seem to show up on mobile.
Have you tried switching it, and not having a static home page to see if that makes a difference?
To be honest, if you want to have a static home page, you should have some useful and engaging content on it. You are making readers take an extra step to see what is actually on your website. Having it set as a blog roll is a better option, as people will be able to see what there is to read.

I cant help you, obviously its question, is it neccessery? Practicly gonna make thumbnail of thumbnailed pic! Smallest display is limitation for many thing and its frustrating. But, I belive that exist solution for that but is it worthy?Reg
