Yoast's insists that our focus keywords should be in the first words of the opening line, and yet posts like the one shared below (ranked #1 in Google for keywords "blog opening statements") seem not to have their focus keywords in the statement!

How come?

Do you obey what's being suggested by Yoast?

I agree with Valerie, use it as a guide rather than a strict rule :)

I try to obey Yoast but it's not always easy to have focus keywords in the opening line. In fact it doesn't always make for great reading.

Earlier this year I wrote two posts using a online timer, so that I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about what I was writing.

For each post, I chose a title and keywords, but I didn't worry about where I used the keywords or if I used them at all.

One of those posts ranks on Page 1 in Google and the other on Page 2. They are ranking better than the posts that I so carefully create.

Also Gomer, no doubt you've read Kyle's training where he says to write for the visitors / audience, not for the search engines. I believe those are wise words to follow!

OK, very comforting words, Valerie. Thanks. I will ponder deep on that.

I ask this guys because, writing in English is already hard for non-English speakers (like me). With this extra challenge, I am afraid our referrals might eventually back off pursuing writing, unless they are so desperate to succeed like me.

Or perhaps, "exact match" not to be strictly followed. More important is, opening statement is related or relevant with the focus keywords?

In your example there's no need as its the URL and Title.
The blogger has covered his bases.

But not exactly. They may be related, but not exact match.

But thanks anyway, for the comment.
