I have a travel blog and have been debating about the best size for my images.

Because they are a big part of my story and I want to showcase them, I'm tempted to have them large as in this post:

http://curiousfootsteps.com/hobbits-doing-the-haka

However, I feel they almost break up the text too much and perhaps interrupt the flow of the story?

This is what most of my other posts are like:

http://curiousfootsteps.com/river-valley-to-kaiter...

The images are much smaller and the text wraps around them so I think it flows a little better.

I realise I could do with breaking up the text in the second one further by adding some headings, but assuming I did that which do you think look better and give the reader the best experience?

I would love some honest feedback as I really can't decide which size to go for!

Thank you very much

Louise

I'm new to this but I looked at both of them and I have to say that the, hobbits photos drew me more into the article but they were both a great job., Miles

The second site about Kerikeri was fine. The images were of similar size and worked well for scenery. With people and movement I would go for the larger size e.g. the Maori.

Well, I live in New Zealand and am familiar with all that you had on the hobbit site - yet, I read the entire thing through because there weren't too many words, you spoke from your perspective (which I found interesting) and the images were the ideal size to draw me in and capture the open spaces. You have done extremely well.

Thank you! Do you mean you prefer the smaller images?

The images appear to be the same size in both links. I am not sure I detect a difference, but I do like the format in both. Sorry, hope that helps.

I think both sites work well. I would suggest cropping the larger ones a bit to remove extraneous material, but that is my dark room background speaking.

I agree that there is a LOT of copy in the second one and it needs to be broken up more. (headers and larger copy, such as in the first several words of each paragraph...)

Ah yeah, the page has no headings which would affect SEO right? I like using the Yoast SEO plugin since I'm new, it reminds me about all this stuff

After looking at both links on my mobile (Samsung s7 edge), I prefer the larger pictures. They appear in more detail to be interesting and beautiful to look at but also, and this could be because it's on a mobile, they fill the width of the screen perfectly where's the smaller pictures have a gap either left or right (not being central) and overall do not look as proffesional. Since most people browse on their mobiles this shouldn't be overlooked. Beautiful website and pictures with great content btw. I have a tendency to be over critical but that's my two cents worth :)

I generally keep square images at the large size, whatever number WordPress assigns for large, and then I scale to 420X420 in the text editor. If you don't know how, it's not hard. When you insert the image, you just look for the numbers by themselves toward the end of the link code. Then you swap what you want.

420 is big enough but less than half the size of a full screen. Just an arbitrary number I use to keep everything uniform. Can anyone say OCD?

I thought as I read your question above that I would prefer the smaller photos but once I clicked on both links and looked at both styles, I realized I like the larger photos. I wonder if you make your text bigger though, and maybe make more breaks in the text if that would help. The text seems overwhelmed but by making it larger, that might help.

Great story by the way!
