Hi Guys,
I wish to stop posting new articles on one of my sites and work on updating the posts that are already there to suit my new level of expertise. I know my publishing frequency here may take a beating but how will it affect my site with the search engines?

Reducing your post frequency will impact the algorithm but not as much as stopping altogether. As many have suggested, try and post once every week and the algorithm will eventually pick up your new post frequency. The worst thing is to post a lot, miss a lot, post a lot, miss a lot etc. You get the idea.
Good luck Candy.

Hi Candy
I would also suggest that you try to maintain some degree of new posts. Even if you reduce to one new post per week that will show Google and others that your site is still active. I don't know for sure but it might also depend to some extent how competitive your niche is. But really I am making that up but it would seem logical.
Good luck

If you are indexed, then you won't lose search engine rank significantly.

Instead of stopping completely, consider to post once a week. I have learned not to 'perfect' posted writing as that is a waste of time.

However, updating dates or relevant information, that's a different reason to modify posted material.

Ivan has written a great blog about republishing old content every 6 months. I personally think that everything is out there and stays there, organic traffic might slow down, but it will not stop, I believe. I saw Wealthy Affiliate questions and blogs from 2015 when I searched. Impressive! :) Thank you for the great question and all the answers here.

I stopped posting on my site for several months while I was perusing another opportunity. Funny thing is traffic was still coming, just slowing down. Still made a few affiliate sales while I was away. I recently got back to posting 1 or 2 articles and updating several older posts each week. Traffic is picking up again. I have learned several things recently and have been updating my older post with them.

If you are looking for real success, consistency is the key. Google likes to see you posting new content each week. But if you need a break, then take a break - hopefully a short one and not as long as I did. If you can, post one article a week and continue to work on existing posts, I believe this is the way to go.
