I have multiple websites (diverse interests!) and sometimes the topics from one are relevant to another. Will my google ranking be affected if I link from one to another of my own sites? Does google even track that?

Hi Diane, I do add internal links that are relevant to different other posts/sites. They have been working for me, and I have not been penalized for this practice.

Best wishes,
Michael

It's a good question Diane and one that crops up regularly.

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a definitive answer because of the huge amount of variables involved ie number of sites concerned, exactly what the subjects are for each one, how relevant the posts are that link to each other etc etc. and there's always the question of whether a webmaster (you) is deliberately creating a linking network or a VPN Virtual Private Network) neither of which are looked upon kindly by Google.

Here's something I found that might help you, it's from 2016 but I believe it's just as relevant now as it was then...

Hope that helps

As the others have said, the links are ok if they are relevant. If they aren’t fully relevant, you can add the NOFOLLOW attribute to the link.

Thank you! I had not considered the NOFOLLOW but that makes sense, too.

I have multiple websites as well. When I write articles to help people build their websites and join Wealthy Affiliate, I link to couple of my websites to show examples of what they can build and accomplish. In google analytics, linking to my other sites shows links back with positive affect. I hope this helps!

Hi Diane, there will be lots of views on this but my simple one is does it add value to the audience and relate to your content? Does it help with their journey, if so great go ahead however if is a link for links sake then avoid. The audience is king so make it about them and you get the benefit. Hope that helps. Phil

Thanks, Phil. Yes, I only do it when it actually makes sense and adds value. So maybe it's ok.
